Oxford English Students and Applicants

so i can say, with absolute certainty in my own failings, that i will never ever be attending oxford university based on my interview performance. a liiiiiittle bit heartbroken.

The more I think about it the more convinced I am that it's a definite no, which is horrible because I would love to study in such a gorgeous place with such wonderful people.

My first interview was sort of mehh okayish but my second was extremely, extremely bad. Well it was always going to be a rubbish Christmas anyway so they might as well add a rejection to the mix. I'm just so disappointed in myself

It's almost cruel giving you a taste of what it could be like to be an Oxford student and then telling you 2 days before Christmas that you'll never experience it I was in Brasenose so walking out of the college and being greeted by the Radcliffe Camera thing was just Ah well at least I tried

Same here Ems. At first I wasn't sure how it went and then I actually thought about the things I said and realised how stupid I sounded. Oh.

Did the interviewers give any indication of how you were doing? It is entirely possible that the reason you thought it went terribly is because they reaaally pushed you, which means they think you're good.

the issues were: i turned up late due to my own timing faults, interpreted the poem to an extent quite wrong, shook a hand when i shouldn't have, referenced something i didn't fully understand myself and they started chasing me about it, and gave very lame answers. i.e, do you select which publishers you buy from? my response: no. MEGA DISAPPOINTED IN SELF PAHAH. how did yours go my love!?! did you say you were late when you bumped into me in town? in terms of interviewer's indications, a couple of times they said good and one of the tutors smiled loads when i referenced a literary critic, but apart from that...it was diabolical.

it would have once been amazing to go there. but that's definitely a parallel universe's decision. and even then i wouldn't get in. the people.were.amazing <3 i would have adored to spend 3 years with some of the people there - we could have worked so well together! including you em, of course. you were sterling i bet sweets.

Awwwhhh no! I am sure that it went a whole lot better than you thought. Well, I'm as convinced I don't have an offer as you are, it went so SO wrong in most places, and I didn't even get any 'good's or indications that they liked me/what I was saying so... guess we're in the same boat lovey. Rejection picnic with gingerbread men? Though I would be surprised if you were rejected, sounds like they were pretty impressed in some parts, and they know that nervousness might screw up an argument a bit, it's all factored in. Plus, you are a bonafide Einstein, so there.

But I feel your pain waiting though, the more I'm sure I'm not in, the more I want it. Sucks to be us.

Hi hope everyone's interviews are going/went well. I've just finished, and was wondering whether it's possible to receive an offer from a college at which you weren't interviewed? Any help is much appreciated!

it was just horrific :L mine were probably sympathy "good"s so i wouldn't worry :L my interviewers were just, generally, so nice, so i felt awful when i was getting everything wrong. REJECTION PICNIC SOUNDS BLISSFUL, though i will experience it alone as both you and allegra will get in :L BONAFIDE EINSTEIN MY ARSE LOLOL honey, i'm really really not. there were people there applying to harvard..it was incredible...i wanted to marry one of them but i lost his name </3 you'll get in. I CAN TELL BY DA STARZ U WILL

At Hertford the lady said we'd get responses at the very earliest next saturday (17th?) with them being sent in the post on the 16th I think. Pretty scary stuff!


The other way round with me (bad then average). At least you've already got offers though! Exeter and Nottingham said they'd wait until January (essentially meaning I'll only get an offer if the other applicants before then are absolutely vile) and only acknowledgements from Warwick/UCL :'(

Don't apologise, it's us, not you! We're just envious of how clearly talented you are

Are you still in Oxford? Have you had your interviews yet? It's a real stress reliever to chat with someone, or even just take a walk round Oxford - don't stay cooped up in your room! I'd wish you luck, but I am dead certain you won't need it.

Really can't tell how my interviews went, but I'm not feeling positive about it. Had an amazing time otherwise though, college was pretty, Oxford is amazing and people were lovely, so I'm happy!

Thank you. I don't really want to disagree, because generally that just smacks of attempting to fish for compliments, but I really don't feel so after that experience. Do you fancy discussing your interview experience? If not, I understand - I know a lot just want to lock it in a sunless corner of the backs of their minds.
