Just wanted to know: Which, if any, OXFORD COLLEGES offer ensuite bathroom accomodation for first years? I would rather pick a college in which I can have an ensuite room. Thanks.
Read the latest prospectus, I'd imagine my knowledge is out of date slightly, when I applied I went through and found out which colleges offered en-suite to all who wanted it, or had a lot of it and then picked my favourite college from those. A lot of people I know are in en-suite, so it shouldn't be too hard to get one.
I know exeter have ensuites as i stayed in one for my interview (although technically it was between two as it was one of those two bed rooms sharing a living room and toilet things, but still at least you don't have to trek down a corridor in the morning)
Some of the best rooms might not be en suite, though. Worth thinking about whether you'd rather like an oak-panelled room, or even set of rooms, in 3rd year. Also, rather than checking for en suite I think the most important thing to check is whether you'd have to live out, as it's usually more expensive than college.

here it's definitely a choice:
en-suite - in new (but tastefully done ) or newly refurbished buildings (some of which are opposite rather than within walls) for the conference market = feel slightly souless, but have your mod cons. v. shared bathrooms & slightly more dubious plumbing - gorgeous old buildings/prime within walls location - oak pannels, double height ceilings, bay windows, old fireplaces, vestibules, more sets etc.

my room (latter category!).
Tough one. I love my current room in college - it's got a massive lounge, bedroom, ensuite bathroom and kitchen. On the other hand, it's pretty old, so the floor is uneven and it's a bit dark. I think I would actually prefer to have a modern room, providing it was as large, but from what I've seen, it's usually the really old rooms that tend to be big. Also, being in an old room means I can live in the heart of college, which often isn't the case with modern accommodation (unless it's a modern college).
A lot of colleges might have ensuite rooms for students in second and third years, but not for the first years, like mine.
That's true actually - I didn't have ensuite in the first year, only in the second and third years. It tends to be the modern colleges that offer more ensuite rooms, since they know when they build the accommodation that conference guests are going to insist on ensuite facilities. I honestly don't think having ensuite is a big deal though; I could easily live without it. It's much more important to have a nice, big luxurious room.

Four rooms to yourself?! Blimey. Which college/buildings are you in? That's so cool (please say queen's )
I know that the first year rooms at Queen's are pretty gash, but anyone know much about the third years'? Are they as amazing as the buildings?

Third Court, St Johns, C******ge (the stars are a courtesy, since this is an Oxford discussion )

I have a friend at The Queen's College, Oxford, who's a first year clinical medic, but that's probably completely different to being a "proper" fresher. Afraid I can't help you.
I got en-suite this year as a fresher and quite a lot of people do .
My friend at Pembroke (Ox) also got ensuite in his first year. I think he had to pay an obscene amount for the privilege, but still... can't be seen sharing with the peasants, can we?

Well, I think Pembroke pay more than everyone else anyway . And yeah, using the same bathroom is sickening! On another note, where do these peasants get the notion that Oxford's full of toffs, they're not just poor but stupid too !

At New College, I believe that there are only 8 Freshers without their own bathroom... They are all on staircase 5, apart from a couple in the pink house... I am meant to be one of them, but it turns out that I have my very own bathroom over the hall, and the other two people on my corridor shair the other one.... Hehe...
