I enter photoshop competitions on the site http://www.worth1000.com sometimes, and I've just entered one where we had to take a piece of Renaissance art and manipulate it to look like it's part of a real image.

    I chose this pic:

    http://cgfa.floridaimaging.com/rembrand/p-rembran1.htm

and turned it into this image:

    Code:
    http://www.worth1000.com/entries/79000/79013fLnK.jpg
I still have almost a day left to make improvements to it before people start voting. Can you guys have a look and tell me what you think?

    Cheers!

that's pretty cool. Maybe if you had some fire and more action it would be better. Also the guy from the painting does look slightly 2D compared to the background, although that's what you'd expect.

I think the horse looks a bit like a donkey, but that's Rembrandt's fault really. Well done.

I've had a little go at adding lighting to the rod, but I'm not sure whether it works or not. I know sometimes there's a temptation to just keep adding, but I'm not sure at this stage whether this is worth keeping or not. Please have a look at this and tell me which one you like best. Also, I had to downgrade the image quality for the lightning pic as they only let you upload small files on here.

Also, if you do like the lighting, can you tell me whether you think the position I've put it in seems to work? I had a longer bolt at first, but it didnt seem to quite look right. Cheers!

The first one with the lightening was better because the shape matched with the dust - as if the lightening had dispersed it.

Yeah cheers for that. I hadnt actually realised that believe it or not!

Which do you think works best though? With or without lightning? The link in my first post is the pic without lightning.

It's cool - I think the lightning in the first one matches better too. Good luck in your competition!

I like the lightning. WHen I saw the first one I thought there ought to be something else - perhaps some more of the picture. But then, nothing else from the original would fit. I think the lightning adds that little extra bit of detail, and makes is seem more Renaissance too.

Thanks. You can track it yourself if you're interested. It's at http://www.worth1000.com under the header 'Pygmalion 3'. You wont be able to see the image for another 16 hours. That's when the voting starts. Voting lasts two days.
