Not if it was an NHS dentist, I don't think.

Most students wouldn't have to pay it but most don't know about HC1/HC2. I've gotten mine for the past 2 years no problems.
I certainly have to pay after wasting my time on the HC1 form, they class your loan as income! Now that's absurd.
My friend had a problem with her wisdom tooth the other day and is at my Uni - we're both full time students and she had to pay to get treatment.

if you get i H2 form (i think it is) from you dentist or doctor or whatever like i got one and youll fill it in they will let you know if you have to pay for it and students dont have too.
i got my H2 certifcate the other week which means i dont have to

Get an HC1 from the doctors/dentist/opticians - it's worth a try.
question bout the HC1 form, if it asks for total money in your bank account, and in my case it's -£700 Od then...is that classed as £0 technically??

lol - yes
If you're 18 and in full time education you don't need to pay. If you're over 18, you do.

Weird rule, isn't it?

I'm fairly sure it's 19. At least where I am... and unless National Health Service is a total misnomer it should surely be the same across the UK...

Even with the form you may still have to pay. My dentist told me they didn't treat any over-18s on the NHS, period. And it's becoming near impossible to find NHS dentists without mile-long waiting lists.

Ive had to pay for all of my dental treatment since age 18, and I am currently at Uni. Even when I filled out the form I still had to pay. Luckily though I am registered with an NHS dentist so I dont have to pay extortionate prices. I was with a private one until last year because no surgeries in my area were taking on patients and it cost me £300 just to have a root canal filling, ridiculous.

With the HC1 form filled in, as a student you should have "caps" - i.e. maximum amounts that you can pay.

Even me - somebody who supposedly is making money from university (yeah, right!) - has caps for each treatment, I forget the amounts.

That should be useful for any major work but not for check ups etc.

Nowhere else in society that I can think of is a loan considered as income, if it was a 'grant' then I would understand, but a loan is a loan...

Some people should consider dental insurance...
i went to the dentist last summer and didnt have to pay for my fillings cos they asked if im still in full time education and i said yes :p: which i am but the fact is i was already 19 then!

What is even more absurd is that htey include the student loan as income whether you take it out or not. If you have a job rather than taking loans, you're doubley ****ed.

Yep I read that too on a website. I complained to both my MP and the PPA stating that I thought it awful that they include the student loan in that way and it is illogical and stupid! I got a good reply from PPA but as usual my MP ignored me

The comments were supposedly passed on, hmm.

As usual, the government use a set lot of figures when it helps them and another when it helps them in the other direction.
oodly enough i had a check up at the dentist today, and that involved an xray and a scale and polish. i had to pay for it as i haven't sent off my HC1 form. i was given a receipt and now all i have to do is send off the HC1 form and claim back.
