Though I may be wrong I imagine the teaching/standards etc at Ningbo are nothing like at Nottingham. The place is a new enterprise and largely Chinese run. It's just a fact that a new university set up from nothing is not going to be able to compete with a very old one with a tradition of excellence. They're even desperately advertising for students it seems as opposed to Notts turning the vast majority of applicants away. I know academics from Nottingham have gone out there to help, but I think what effectively is happening, is Nottingham is cashing in on what is going on in China (like schools like Harrow and Rodean others are) and are creating a franchise; selling the name- which is synonymous with the British education system, academic achievement and history. I'm sure when it gets up and running properly it will generate a lot of cash. I have nothing against this, certainly not if the money generated means better facilities for students in Nottingham.
