High Holborn

After reading the all those accommodation threads, I would like to know something that does not appear on them. Information about High Holborn, not about location and prices, but about the size of rooms, number of rooms per bathroom, if there are problems at 9:40 to take a shower, quality of the common areas (common rooms, etc.).

Thanks in advance.

Rooms are slightly smaller than average (tiny in comparison to Bankside but then beijing's closer to Bankside than LSE.)

It's 4 to a kitchen and bathroom.

Common areas are aguably the best out of all the halls. They're very good.

No problem with showers, etc.

as a point of comparison with room sizes, I would say the rooms are comfortably bigger than inter-collegiate rooms that I've seen (mostly Commonwealth.) The beds in HH are also about 73439 times bigger than our ones. Oh yea and the bar is cool in HH.

If you wanted an actual measurement i believe the accommodation website states a figure of 12m^2. But i have never been to LSE to check this figure. You're probably looking at 3 x 4 which is good for a non-en-suite room compared to other Unis.

Compared to which other Unis? I assume that you wouldn't be follish enough to be talking about non-London ones, as generally speaking, their rooms are bigger than that, but that sort of room size is about standard for s single room in London, although last year (I'm at UCL), my room was a fair bit bigger than that (3.5m x 4.5m), but I was in Halls is Camden. So, where were you comparing to?

I meant Good as in not bad. Previous posts had suggested the rooms to be quite small but they larger than the the majority at Warwick which isn't restircted by space like many other Unis.

What else would 'good' mean?

Meh, so that's one counter-example, but you can't make such generalisations - 3 x 4m is standard across the rooms I've seen at various London Unis (UCL, LSE, Imperial, Kings were a big bigger at the hall I went to, etc), so it's not exactly out of the ordinary.

Well i meant good as in standard. In other words to prevent it appearing that these rooms weren't smaller than average when compared to uni standard only LSE standard. Not that this was exceptionally good for a university but what to expect at standard universities.
are there any en-suites in HH?

No.

There are just single rooms (4-5 of which share a common bathroom and kitchen), and twin en-suites.

According to http://www.lse.ac.uk/accommodation/HH/main.htm at least.
has anyone heard of someone having a twin ensuite to themselves?
the rooms look kind of dirty in the gallery... is it like that in real life ?

Considering the intense competition for rooms at High Holborn, probably not.

And I've heard HH rooms being referred to as hotel-like.

Welcome to the real world folks. Anyway, anyone who isn't a complete snob will do just fine in HH.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean?

What are the nicest/'snobbiest' halls?

I think by definition, there are none. With possible exception to the UCL one designed for those with families (Bernard Johnson)... but even then, they aren't snobby.

It's usually people who feel halls are 'beneath' them and then fork out £500 a week for some mini-mansionesque flat that I find snobby. Often caught spending a large number of nights in the overpriced 'elite' clubs of London where a drink costs no less than £7 and probably over ten.

I know, the Tantra every night types. Most of London is exceptionally expensive. I had to pay £6 for a shot of Sambuka the other night - you just can't fork out that sort of bunse as a student on a regular basis..

So here's another "vague" questions - which halls are the 'nicest' - in terms of clean, large, comfortable rooms?

Bankside most probably.
