Warwick accommodation

Hi,

I would like your help for some accommodation choices in the University of Warwick. Unfortunately, I was not given accommodation on-campus and I ended up with my fifth choice, Union Court in Leamington Spa. Does anybody know anything about this type of accomodation? Is it convenient and how much does it take to get to the university by bus? How is life in Leamington Spa?
Should I also consider a private hall of residence in Coventry?
Give me your opinion, where should I live(Coventry/Leamington Spa) considering distance and student life?

Generally, I prefer a en-suite room.

I don't know much about this particular accommodation, but I lived in Leamington last year. It's about 30-40 minutes by bus depending on how busy it is. There's plenty of things to do there and lots of students, so it's a fun place to live, really.

I'm living in Coventry next year. I'm within walking distance, so I'm unsure of bus times, but it's usually slightly quicker on the bus than Leamington, maybe around 15 minutes; perhaps more or less depending on which area of Coventry you are living in.

I enjoyed living in Leamington but my timetable is always pretty packed which made commuting to campus for 9:00 every morning pretty annoying, especially since they send a different bus for those times than the usual bus which takes slightly longer. I think the student life is probably more active in Leamington than Coventry, though. So I guess which you choose really depends on whether you prefer ease of commuting or the student lifestyle!

Thank you all for your help. :smile: Other students also informed me that it is a nice hall of residence. It has been recently renovated and it is also quite safe. Leamington Spa is quite popular among Warwick students and has a satisfactory student life.

Are you an undergraduate student?
I am wondering when I will get my results. I have applied for Postgraduate Accomodation and have not received anything, yet.

Leamington Spa is a very beautiful town but it's a shame you didn't get on campus accommodation. In the first term a lot of socialising happens on campus so you might find yourself going back and forth a bit but after this I doubt you'll notice. If you have a car it's a huge convenience but obviously this isn't an option for everyone.

Can totally recommend Leamington Spa. Union court is in South Leamington (because it's south of the river Leam) which is where most of the student population of Leamington is based.

I am a postgraduate student. Maybe the results for undergraduate students will take a lit bit longer.

Hey Nicoli.

I also applied for Postgraduate Accommodation (coming from Germany) but was placed in Union Court Leamington Spa. Just as you I was thinking about moving into a flat not managed by the university. I have to decide today (my offer expires then) and I am still not quite sure. :frown:

I have also applied for postgraduate accommodation but I didn't have any news yet.

The ones that you have already received an answer:

Where you in Warwick as undergraduate students?
Are you from UK, EU, outside EU?
Did you apply before or after the deadline? (31 July)

Hey c.fly,

I suppose you have already made your decision, but if you are asking my opinion I would recommend Union Court. Otherwise, you have to look for an apartment alone and also to communicate with the owner. I prefer accommodation managed by the university, as they would take care of any problems I may have. Moreover, I heard Union Court is a quite good choice in good location(near the bus stop and the train station). You also have your own bathroom and your own room and you share the kitchen.

Spairos,

This will be my first time in Warwick. I was an undergraduate student in Greece. I applied for accommodation at the end of June.

@Spairos
Got my BSc in Bus Admin in Germany, so EU and applied before the deadline.

@nicoli
I accepted my offer at Union Court :smile:
I went back and forth thinking about advantages and disadvantages of living at Union Court or in the flat-offer I had. The main reason for living at Union Court: I already have the feeling that social life happens on campus, so I at least wanted to live together with other students (flat were PHDs).
Hope we will have a good time.
Now I only have to decide if I take my car or not. Might come in handy but could create some extra parking costs which I think I would rather avoid.

Edit: Has anybody seen pictures of the rooms at Union Court? I couldn't find any online :/

Wouldn't it be difficult for you to drive on the left side of the road with a car that is designed to drive on the right side?

Not really. Just been to Thailand. Worked fine there and my guess would be that traffic is a bit more "organized" in the UK :wink:

Thank you for your responces.

Well I found out that the university doesn't allocate on-campus accommodation before mid-late August (as they state on their site) so I was happy that they hadn't already informed me.

I was just informed that I have been given a room in Heronbank!!!!

Hurraaaaay! :smile::smile::smile::smile::smile::smile:

Hey :smile:

I recently accepted my offer for accommodation at Union Court. I'll be at the 3rd floor as I am going to be a postgraduate student. @nicoli and @c.fly tell me more details about your room!! Maybe we'll be at the same flat!

P.S: I saw few fotos of the rooms and the kitchen in my offer! However, I don't have a clear view regarding the rooms! Fortunately, we'll have our own bathrooms.

It is. A lot better, in fact!

I'm going into my second year and am also in Union Court. I didn't check it out myself but the girls in my flat went for a look around before we committed to living there and they said it seems good enough. En-suite, few minutes walk from a Co-Op, the station, and a bus stop to Warwick.

Let me know if you need any more info... x
