whitefields or rootes?

ok so there is a lot about accomodation...well at least about av jm and rootes...but whitefields?

could someone answer these questions
1) is it a real hassle to move out if ur on a 30 week contract as opposed to a 39 week one?
2) is it a REAL benefit to have a sink or just kind of good
3) does it make a big difference whether sharing between 6 or 12?
4) which is more sociable?

thank you :d

1) It's a pain in the arse, but you get used to it, there's places to store stuff etc., at the end of both terms I've just pulled an all-nighter after the (3am finish) end of term party and packed up then
2) I really like having a sink in my room (Rootes), don't have to bother going to the kitchen for a drink (useful at 3am to down pints of water after a heavy night drinking, and at 9am when you wake up for a lecture with a hangover).
3) Wouldn't know... I share with, um, I don't even know how many people. Probably about 14? In Rootes, and it works out really well. No queueing, no fighting for space/showers/toilets/kitchen stuff, and lots of people to chat to. In Rootes you also have the benefit of being able to socialise easily with other kitchens, as it's all open.
4) Rootes  see above. Lots more people in the immediate area, easy to walk around the 12-16 kitchens in each block (touring kitchen parties is always fun!) and you're pretty much guaranteed to find people you get on with, who like the same sorts of things as you, to go out/to clubs/socs with you etc. I'm sure Whitefields is nice, but it's a small house, and you're pretty much stuck with having to socialise with the people you live with, no escape! Depends on what you're after, really.

i don't live in either Rootes or Whitefields, but i can answer some of these anyway coz they apply to me too..

1) yes, its a hassle, (especially if you live abroad, and can't just pile stuff into a car like everyone else:mad: ) but i would say it's not worth all the extra rent money just to avoid it..so unless you are definitely going to live in your room for the extra 9 weeks, the 30 week let is probably better.

2) i don't think i'd survive without my sink!!! but that depends on each person i suppose. if it comes to it, drunk puking is much better (so to speak) in the privacy of your own room than in full view with your head down a shared toilet in the corridor somewhere (for example..there are lots of other reasons too, that just happened to be the first one that came to mind).

3) nope, probably not lol.

4) Rootes, as all its residents will proudly tell you over and over again...
So Whitefields dont have sinks in their rooms? Thats pretty gay. I'm really leaning towards Rootes recently. The 30 week let doesn't bother me, packing is no big hassle.

lol dont let that stop you from applying though, coz rootes is massive and has loads of blocks (A to P, or something like that)

hm rootes is the cheapest, but not one im attracted to at all! Whitefields sounds quite nice, but has no basin! which would be useful!

Some others like JMartin, Redfern, and Westwoods look good but i kno nothing about these!

i think at rootes you seem to get a wider range of people cos there are so many on a floor so they'res more chance of finding some really like -minded friends. At whitefields the hous thing sounds good but it restricts the number of people you're socialising with.

to be honest tho, id prefer to be close to a smaller number of people rather than friendly with hundreds of people! Also I can't be bothered to go looking on different floors if i dont like the people on my floor.

Everyone says theyre going for rootes... and everyone also says its all the loud people there. I'm enegetic and can be loud, but I like a bit o peace too!

Westwood is miles away from everything...have a look at a map of the campus and you'll see what i mean.
