Vodka and Red Bull - how bad is i for you, really?

...OK, a self-inflicted health problem thread. On Saturday night I drank 12 double vodka red bulls, and it had the most strange and horrible effect ever. Nothing like being drunk really, my heartrate was nearly 3 times normal, and that was at rest.

My main problem now is, I've hardly slept in 3 days! I've been getting about 4 hours a night, and that's interrupted too because I keep twitching in my sleep. Also, I still feel sort of dizzy all the time, and a little bit sick.

Make sure you're hydrated, because doesn't Red Bull make you go to the bathroom more and mixing with alcohol which does the same can't be good can it  ?

I reckon your body is still getting rid of all the caffeine, but I'm more than liable to be wrong. Just rest it out or see a GP if it really that bad  .

So thats good you feel better in the mornings!

Also Vodbull night for the Birmingham unis (vodka redbull £1 all nite) always made me feel far too good in the morning, i guess thats why...

That's quite a lot cheaper than the £5.40 I was asked to pay at one bar. Fortunately they told me the price before they made the drink, so I was able to tell them in a round about way to shove it and that I'd go elsewhere.

I agree, that Vodka Redbull makes you feel less drunk. I actually got quite aggravated one night when I found out by the end of the evening that I still wasn't drunk.

u know what's bad? vodka+redbull+sleeping-pills... its effect is far far worse than anything described here... but it's quite fun on long weekends or vacations... side-effect: u wont wake up for about 3 days...
It's bad in that you feel less drunk you actually are; thus facilitates car accidents as one 'feels' okay but thereby creating false confidence.

its very, very bad and especially as it felt weird, i seriously advise you not to go down that route again. this drink is much more dangerous than many realise.
the caffeine in the red bull boosts your heart rate but alcohol weakens the heart's pumping ability. drinking vodka and red bull seriously increases the risk of heart failure and this can happen suddenly.

Oh shut the **** up, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

OP: Caffeine is a stimulant, with 12 redbulls you would have consumed over the upper limit of most caffeine users(~1g, you consumed up to 1.5g) in the space of a few hours, and thats what happens, caffeine is harmless, provided you don't take the lethal dosage, although over time you may develop problems such as irregular heart-beat, so basically, don't make a habit of drinking 12 red-bulls in a night, 12 vodkas is fine, watch the red-bulls though :p:

only 12, is that all?

Drink plenty of water mate, really you should drink plenty of water that night and the very next day (and keep drinking it). Normally you should drink 2litres of water a day, and for those who dont know this amount does NOT include other drinks, so no matter what else you drink you still need at least 2 litres, and as alcohol and caffine dehydrates the body the amount of water has to be doubled, at least.

Also after a heavy session its an idea to get plenty of vit c, b and zinc into your system.

Also vodka and red bull can have very similar effects to speed, except with speed you dont get drunk (dont take it though!!).

Ive had the effects of a night out that have lasted almost a week..... but that said if your really worried go see your gp.

Red Bull makes your liver bleed as its like an overload of energy. So people with weaker livers (like me) shouldn't drink it according to my Dr.

Drink water and orange juice. Try having a relaxing bath etc to induce some natural sleep. Red Bull is quite evil.

it's like a speedball light. Mixing coke and heroin increases and decreases the heart rate as the drugs work which gives it a lot of shock, the coke taking it up for a shoirt time and then the heroin lasts longer, taking it right down afterwards. Vodka Red Bull won't kill you (a speedball killed Rivers Phoenix) but it's still really bad for your heart. Never mix depressants with stimulants.
Isn't Red Square Red Bull with vodka?

Red square is just a brand of vodka, like Smirnoff.

I don't drink vodka and normal Red Bull but occasionally drink vodka and the sugarfree Red Bull. I get drunk really easily off that compared with vodka and any other mixer. I've been told that Red Bull makes the alcohol stronger or something.
Interesting point....red bull is banned in several countries - your body is probably in shock as it is bad for you...Its having its natural effect...drink lots of water to get it out of ur system...you'll finaly be so exhausted you'll sleep for ages
well red bull is a high enery drink full of caffeine, and your body takes an hour to get rid of one unit of alcohol...
did you read this story on BBC news the other day!!

scientists have found in a study that Red Bull made people feel less drunk, as the caffeine made them happy, so reduced the effect of the depressive alcohol.

im never drinking red bull and vodka again! now that i know it isnt helping me get drunk, when it costs more than vodka and lemonade anyway! when i want to get drunk, i want to get drunk..
I understant the need of drinking plenty of water in that particular situation; but the idea of drinking normally 2 litres of water a day is a myth. Give me significant research from great specialized journals; otherwise I don't buy it.
