..get into a relationship with someone who lived 2 1/2 hrs away from you by train? It us about 13quid one way to see each other. Do you think it's too much distance? I'm at uni; he works- so we're both busy and seeing each other on the weekend or midweek (ie seeing each other once a week) seems like it'd be okay.

Yes I would, if you really had feelings for each other and wanted it to work you'd make the effort.

Well it isnt exactly a lost cause. Plenty of people have long distance relationships. Without statistics i couldnt say if they worked less well then more "local" relationships or not, but i'd assume it would be better finding someone closer. Not my call though.

Time wise, I could do some studying on the train- I'm used to long journeys anyway cos I live a long way from where I study.

if you're used to the travelling, then that's not so much of a problem. if you like each other enough and can put the effort in, it'll be worth it
Look at it this way.
2 1/2 hours by train isnt exactly far. Im in a relationship with someone and there is a sea between us, and I cant speak for her, but Im the happiest Ive ever been. If you feel strongly enough about someone distance doesnt matter.

If you genuinally like eachother that much distance wont be a issue.

Same here.
You can do some studying on the train like you said and if your bf has a job and you don't then maybe he could pinch in on the train tickets. Or have him come over more often then you go up there.

If you meet someone at uni, chances are you'll be that far from each other anyway! (in terms of permanent homes) So it's perfectly reasonable.
If you really care about each other and will put the erffort in why not?
I do long distance relationships all the time, they're not too bad. 2 1/2 hours on a train is nothing really. Besides there's always the phone as well, get a good contract phone and you can talk a lot too during the week.

Its not like you never get time off uni either, most students get half the year off so it shouldnt be a drama.

As I have an overseas relationship as well, I feel like answering this one.

Err, it's hard. The only chances to meet up are in the holidays. It's daily MSN (occasionally webcam and/or voicechat) and text messages. Every now and then a phonecall, but that's too expensive.
You really need to be very committed and very much in love to make it last and not cheat on your partner. Hopefully in a year or two I'll have moved to England and it will no longer be long distance.

i went out with a guy who lived about an hour/an hour and a half away from me a couple of years ago and we saw each other about once a week but it worked out for a while, we were together about 8 months i think and when we broke up it wasn't because of the distance. so if you really dig each other it should be do-able.
