For some reason when I play football with my Halls' mates I have recently been getting this bad violent cough that looks like I'm about to vomit but it never happens. I have never experienced this before when playing football at home or rugby etc. Is it to do with nerves? j/w

Any help will be greatfully appreciated!

Noone here can really say whats wrong.
Perhaps you get abit clogged up by flem or something, or maybe you have a chest infection??? only other reasons it could be are due to smoking.
Be best to go see your doctor about it thoe.

Does it happens during other forms of exercise outdoors? Particulary in cold weather? Could be exercise indused asthma. Go and talk with your GP.

Thing is I don't smoke. I was thinking about taking it up with the doctor but I never really thought of it to be that serious.

Didn't mean to scare you or anything. If it boders you or affects your performance on the pitch it may be worth checking out to be on safe side and hopefuly get rid of that cough.
I always cough a lot after sport, but never violently.

I don't think my lungs like so much air coming in, dunno. That's probably complete *******s...

Yeah my dad had asthma when he was younger. I always thought it was something you were born with though.

The thing is when I play football it's at a pitch in central London and the nearest roads are within 200 metres whereas in rugby the nearest roads are like 1km or more and sometimes I'm shielded from pollution via the stadium or forests.

It is extremly rare to hae asthma since birth. Most people with asthma develop it in childhood at some stage but it is not uncommon for adults or even elderly to be first diagnosed. Polution has little to do with it. Cold air or exercise can be trigers on their own. As you have a family history of it asthma seems even more likely. Go to your GP to exclude it or comfirm it. If it is EI asthma it can be controled easily and you will be able to exercise cough free again.

When I read the name of the thread I thought you were telling us you were coughing up footballs, of course I had to read about it. It turns out I was wrong but it could just be asthma you have, I had it a few years ago but it disappeared eventually.
yeh sounds like asthma as i used to feel the same after outdoor sports and also felt a wheezing sensation. Tho when i went to see the doc he refered me to someone who said it wasnt too bad and i went again after 1 yr for a retest and it had gone!
