I'm using it for the rate of reaction for enzymes in biology.

I dont do biology, but it could be the same. That is what I know as the rate of reaction for chemistry. Do you not have a text book or something to check?

it just depends on how you define it. sometimes it will be kg s^-1, sometimes mol s^-1, sometimes dm^-3 s^-1, but it will always have s^-1

It depends on the frame of time reference though-ie min^-1 for some reactions.???
