how NOT to get pregnant

hello

i noticed alot of pregnancy threads on here. although i abhor promoting sex before marriage, i hate abortion more. it is a grave sin. and i think spreading STDs is irresponsible.

so here is a thread for info on the best contraceptive menthods

1) girls - go on the Pill. its free from the GP, your parents dont need to know unless you are too young to show that you understand what it means anyway - i dont htink this would apply to anyone over 13, and younger than that you shouldnt even be thinking of sex. it prevents pregnancy 99% of the time. Sometimes it makes you put on weight. but its better to have a big tummy full of fat than full of an unwanted bubba.

AND

2) guys- use a condom. girls amke your men use a condom. carry one with you all of the time. and regardless of if you are on the Pill, USE IT. it will protect you from STDSwhcih the Pill wont, and is i think 87% effective against pregnancy. buy from online/Tescos/gas stations/vending machines/almost anywhere. dont be shy, online no one knows you. i think www.durex.com should help

used in conjunction with the Pill, it should be almost certain to prevent pregnancy.

if there's any mods or nurses/docs on here, please help me out. and anyone who uses another method like the diaphram or cap or IUD please explain it.

i'm not attacking those two pregnant girl on the other thread, as all we can do is try to help them to be strong and talk if they wana feel less alone. but what i am doing is trying to promote responsible sexual behaviour. creating illigitamate children without intending to raise them properly is not responsible.

remember. if the john's not on, tonite's not on.
be safe
God bless. x

Condoms are free too, if you get them from a family planning clinic or GP surgery or other medical establishment. All contraception is. Just thought I'd point that out.

And to add to the Pill stuff... If you're rubbish at remembering to take it then consider other, less memory dependant options: patch, ring, injection, implant, IUD...

well assuming people already planning to have sex are not going to follow this....

i have heard there's some website that sends girls a SMS to remind them of Pill time. or set your mobile fone's alarm at the same time each day. or a watch with alarm.or take it before bed.

and even if you balls it up, at least using condoms should prevent it.

sorry to be nagging, but abortion is killing and killing is wrong so we should at least take all measures to avoid it. i mean, if there was a cute toddler straying into the path of an oncoming car, i'd say 99% people would try to save it. so why cant we at least try to save the unborn?

please use precautions people!

EDIT: im not advocating contraception, but none of you fellow Catholics can say yes to premaritial sex, but no to contraception on the basis of religion. either do it properly or not at all. keep the mouse in the house

This is the thread you want

I think that one covers just about everything with regards to contraception.

I'd also like to point out that if people are worried they might be pregnant, or know they are and are considering abortions, preaching at them (this is not aimed at anyone in particular but has happened on several occasions in the last couple of days) that they were wrong to get pregnant in the first place, or that abortions are evil etc, is NOT a good idea. It's not going to help anyone.

Personally, I think abortion in some circumstances is justifiable, especially if you're really not capable of coping with a baby (though this does raise the question of whether you should be having sex in the first place). However, even if it is justifiable, it's a nasty thing to go through, so the best way to avoid it is by being reliable with contraception.
errr i really hate the Pill because it makes me put on about half a stone :-( and i actualy dread going back on it in the future. i know its better to be fatter than pregnant but you'd think they cld come up with something a bit more appealing!? As for condoms, i expect many people start off using them, but say you were having a bit of a busy night ie. you have sex more than once, then often you realise you have ran out and dont want to stop just because of that. im not saying it's right, it's just a common situation....
oh please- i am the girl who is pregnant in the other thread and i think that it is wrong you enforcing it so strongly. I admire you for conveying the point but i dislike how strong it is. i am having a difficult time at the moment, as my thread said and i find yours difficult to say the least. and i did mean to get rid anon i have nothing to be ashamed of.

aha! can we put this one at the top?

i ststed in my first post that we need to try to give strength to those already pregnant, but this thread is aimed at people having unprotected sex. i guess it would be useful if a mod or someone more knowledgable could perhaps post some TRUE and USEFUL links about abortion, as anyone reading that pro life stuff you get off google will make a girl in a bad situation even worse. i cant help cos i dont know anything about abortion in the UK .

i mean, im not having sex, but until recently i didnt know girls combined the Pill with condoms. i thought it was one or the other. but ther's already a contraception thead that Helenia posted.hopefully this will help someone

It's included in lessthanthree's "Best Threads Ever" sticky which is at the top of the forum. When I have more time I might make an abortion information thread and include that in there as well.

Don't make excuses. Did you try switching pills? Different forms of hormonal contraception? Just because one pill makes you put on weight (and face it, half a stone is not hard to lose if you're disciplined) doesn't mean they all will, so it's worth changing and trying a few if you're not happy with the first one. Aside from that, as the thread I linked to shows, there are lots of other options - patch, implant, injection etc.

If you're using condoms as your sole method of contraception, then you have to be as responsible with the as you are with the pill, or live with the consequences. That's why I generally use both.

How about sterilising them?

I get what you're saying but just be careful you don't generalise too much. Religious people seem to think having children without marrying is a sin but why is it? My parents never married as it was in the 60s and all that when everyone was rejecting the conventions and norms, eg. not getting married, but they have been happily living together for over 30 years so just because people don't get married doesn't mean the child should be labelled as 'illigitamate' and unwanted etc. Many couples who marry just end up getting divorced anyway. I don't see marriage as necessary, what is it anyway? Just a bit of paper. You don't need a bit of paper to prove your love for someone. I don't believe in 'no sex before marriage' but I do believe in waiting for the person I am goign to stay with, which is practically the same in moral terms, just minus the religious marriage bit if that makes sense.

How ironic is that coming from a fervent Catholic?!

Do you know how quickly the AIDS virus is spreading in Africa as a result of the pope's ban on contraception?

Would you like to hasard a wild guess? Because it's more than just one cute toddler, thats for sure.
