The Times Good university Guide vs The Guardian University Guide

Poll

Which Guide gives a clearer ranking of the university?

Hiya guys. Its kinda annoying to me that one guide says one thing and the other says something completely different. I personnaly prefer the Guardian because the tariffs which the applicants have dont influence the ranking - I dont understand how the tariffs of the applicants make the university ITSELF any better. It would just mean that more students are applying there. Its would be very interesting to know how the Times Good University Guide is better than the Guardian University Guide.
The Guardian one is a load of rubbish. Mind you neither are remotely reprensentative for various reasons.
I agree with you, I asked my teacher about it, she said that they both rate Universities differently, 'what is good for one newspaper may not be good for another,' she said.

Once you've chosen ur uni...u cud just prefer the guide that rates ur uni more highly! Those league tables fluctutate so much that it's really only worth using them as a general guide or for reassurance!
As someone explained in the LSE forum, league tables are only useful to see the improvements of particular universities, but in real terms Oxbridge then LSE then Imperial are always going to be the top 4.

Common view. Its just not as valued as the Times one, even though anyone with a slight idea of the process involved will understand its fundamentally flawed. For example, they look at funding for the departments. Now obviously universities with medical departments will get immense funding for that, but social science unis don't, so LSE and SOAS and other similar unis lose out big time on the points.
