Id say give it a few weeks if not a month. Did they not tell you when you got it done?

Could you pop back and ask?

No I haven't had it done yet. I was just wondering because I would like to get it done soon but I'm off to Spain in the summer and would like to be able to swim!

Don't go swimming for ages after. Just think what those little kids have done in there! Also, if you go swimming a lot then it's likely to get irritated. And if you get it done now it might still be at the icky stage byt then, so you won't want to show it off.

You're best waiting really.
It should be fine if you look after it for the first month, by that i mean dont change the bar, clean it twice a day or whenever it feels uncomfortable and dont touch it with dirty hands! The chlorine in the swimming water should do it good as well as sea water because they both are pretty good disinfecters in their own right. just make sure u clean it asap when out of the water and if any irritation occurs just dont swim again!
If you get it done reasonably soon it shouldn't be too bad for your hoilday, only took mine about 4-5 months to be ok, maybe even less! Go get some advice from your local liscenced peircing studio! xx

Actually, I'm pretty sure chlorine would be bad for piercings, and sea water definitely is - the amount of bacteria is incredible. Not something you want in a healing piercing.
