...Is this that thing that goes round emails every 6 months or so that goes something like:

'Men don't get subtle hints
They don't get strong hints
They don't get obvious hints
JUST SAY IT'

and 'Learn to work the toilet seat - we need it up, you need it down, it's not hard'

and so on?

It's amusing first time round.

Its not just women, men have rules as well including:

1.) Don't go out with your mates ex
2.) Don't go out with a relative of your mate (sister, mother etc)
3.) Don't take advantage of a drunk girl (unless you are drunk yourself so theres nothing really you can do)

There are loads more and unfortunalty, most guys ignore them

I think it's a proper book, not just one of those crap forwards. It's basically rules you have to follow to find yourself a husband. I've never read it.

Its a book about how to keep a man always at arms distance so that he'll marry you. Its a load of hoop. As an amazon reviewer said: "The book tells a woman how to catch a man who enjoys the chase. Wouldn't you rather catch a man who enjoys you?"

It's very much set in american culture so firstly in that regard it wouldn't work here. Secondly what it suggests would leave all but the most belligerent of men with the impression that the girl is NOT interested. So what if you actually want to reject a man? And he thinks you've read the rules. Welcome to stalkerville, I realise this wasn't where either of you intended to journey. But have a nice stay anyway and don't worry, a barring order is relatively easy to come by.

It's stupid and bad for all but the most immature of both sexes.

the blurb...
An unexpected bestseller, this self-help book for women who want to hook a man seems to have struck a chord with desperate American women. Fein and Schneider, whose main credentials seem to be that they are married, lay out the rules to be followed for successfully snagging a dream hunk. And these rules are hard as cast-iron--Rule Five: Don't Call Him and Rarely Return His Calls. The idea is to return to pre-feminist mind games, exploiting the male hunting urge by playing hard to get. The result seems unliberating--Rule Seventeen: Let Him Take the Lead--but it seems to be capturing female minds. Rules Girls are eyeing the phone with steely resolve, and Rules seminars are springing up nationwide. Curious bachelors have been observed studying The Rules, some frowning, others with the supercilious smile of the hunter.

Its an American book and a whole heap of people are covinced it works. Whatever. I think there is much more to life than getting married. Like having dignity for oneself.

i have a copy and i love it, though i doubt it.

its things like let the guy look at you first, call you first, never spend over 10 minutes ont he fone to him, dont accept two dates in a week, demand that he pays for everything, be busy and distant all of the time. basically let him do the running while you ignore him/rebutt as much as is possible. the theory is, if he loves you and accepts u treating him like sh*t then he is a 'good guy' otherwisew he isnt worth it.

as i said, this wont get you a man nor a mouse. just an insecure idiot. you can get cheap copies from amazon

I must agree with the toilet seat. In fact it takes less energy to put the toilet seat down than to put it up so even if the female population did move the toilet seat, men would still be disadvantaged.

Aaarggh! The humanity!

Reply 14

FFS its a toilet seat. I am adult enough to put it down if the guy has left it up and NOT get in a strop about it.

Reply 15

I never got the toilet seat thing, what's the big deal

That's good then, because it's written for women.

lol interestingly, they wrote 'the rules' and it was bestselling. then loads of offshoots like 'the little book of ruiles' 'the rules on tape' 'the rules 2'

they finally wrote 'the rules for a perfect marriage' (or something similar)

both women authors are now divorced
