Hi.

What are the best Universities I could aim for with these grades.

GCSE: AABBBBCCCCCC (The As are in English Lang and Lit)
AS Levels: AABD (History/Sociology/Psychology/English Lit)
A Levels: Sociology/Psychology and History and I assume my predicted grades would be A*AA

One good place to look is the What Uni website. It has a facility where you enter your a subject area and then on the next page your expected grades and it tells you which Unis might accept you.http://www.whatuni.com/

Or, the UCAS course search can also pop up some interesting ideas you might not have thought of - if for instance you search on Sociology and then select 'all sociology courses' it will show all the 'sort of sociology, like sociology etc' courses that might be called something else. http://search.ucas.com/cgi-bin/hsrun...run?y=2013&w=H

These are both good places to start if you are feeling a bit clueless.

A*AA means apply where you like really.

Probably not Cam due to AS and explaining a D to Oxford would also be a tricky one.

LSE loves GCSEs by all accounts but if your school was **** might be worth emailing them to ask.

UCL/Durham/Notts would be an outside chance and Manchester ask for 5 As at GCSE so I wouldn't apply there, though there are plenty of unis of similar standing who don't. Notts also explicitly mention GCSEs as a factor so might not want to apply there.

Personally I'd go for one of the A*AAs as an outside shot (UCL/Durham/KCL) then 3/4 from that group of Birmingham, QM(a*), Exeter, Sheffield, Newcastle, Leeds, Soton,Leicester etc. etc. Maybe one of Bristol/Warwick which are a bit harder to get into. Whether to have an insurance is your call really.

Obviously there's a lot of variation in the type of uni (campus, small city, big city, campus in a city) and location there so your preferences in terms of those, and other stuff such as nightlife and sport, should cut down a few.
