Why not, can you give any reason for this?

Why would you get too many candidates, the number would be whittled down using a system like, but ultimatly better then the US
It couldn't work.

Imagine that each country held polls to select their "best person". All fine and dandy so far.

Then there's the "world election" where everybody gets the opportunity to vote for the "best person" of their choice.

Obviously, the "best person" in Albania is not going to stand much of a chance against the "best person" in America, Canada, Australia, UK etc

How many people speak Albanian and how many speak English? I really can't see the majority of English speaking people voting for an Albanian even though, beneath the language/culture barrier, the Albanian may be the "best" of the lot.

It would just become one big numbers game.

well people that were british would not want to vote for Bush, Americans would not want to vote for Blair, Others may love Mugabe others wont, Some could feel that the Queen of Britain is the one. Its obvious that people will not accept a new leader if they are forced in to a corner. Having a whole nation or 3 against you is seriously bad!

All the countries would have become one and every person would speak the same language as each other and so it would depend on the candidates, and there would be no more immigration to worry about until there was a moonbase, but you can't imagine the poor people building their own spaceship to get there.
