weight gain and feeling down about it!

ok so the weight hasnt been a sudden gain its been gradual and its only just hitting me that ive put on alot of weight and look terrible compared to what i used to.... my main problem is with the tops of my thighs, bum looks like its sagging and i suppose what you call love handles.... just makes me feel really bad and i cried myself to sleep last night because of it. I do binge on cakes and stuff when im at home but at uni i generally eat well, plenty of salad, fruit and veg... hardly any sweet stuff. But i do lack exercise. Id like to focus on the areas im particularly unhappy with which ive already mentioned. can anyone tell me what sort of exercises i should be doing to try and lose weight in these areas/ tone up the areas? thanks x

why not try swimming? that sport works a lot on your body areas...
Yeah swimming is quite a good form of exercise. Just don't push yourself to far. If you feel you need to lose weight then talk to your doctor first.

Generally speaking you can't do anything to lose weight from particular areas. Lose weight generally, and gradually those areas will reduce in size. You can of course do toning exercises in the affected regions, which may improve the appearance a little bit. But ultimately you'll just have to accept that that is the way your body happens to store fat, and the only way to get rid of it is to get rid of the surplus fat in your body overall.

As I read it she was asking for exercises to remove weight from particular parts of her body, rather than overall. If she means overall, well really there's no end of possibilities. The gym? Running? Swimming, as other people have suggested. Walking (that pedometer thing is good for people who have little opportunity for other forms of exercise). Taking up a sport with a lot of running and moving around (not golf), like tennis or squash.
I know how you feel, same happened to me.

Was down to a glorious 51 kg last year in December, but then just got lazy!

I started uni again, had Oweek (freshers  ) assignments and the weight just piled on, am now something like 54.5 kgs (55 at most).

So busy trying to shed it all off again!
