Starting my 2nd degree, can i still get Student loan??

Hi,

I will be starting my second (Ba) degree in sept 06......

The first degree that i did, i found that futher on in the course it wasnt what i actually wanted to do, but i was so far in....i thought to myself, if i leave now, all i would leave with was debt! So i decided to finish the degree and come out with something, other than debt.

But now i have got onto a degree programme that i really want to do....will there be problems or limits to the amount i can take out on a student loan...??

As mentioned before I have already taken out a loan before for the first degree which i did, and havent paid any off any yet, as i havent earned over the £15,000.

Will they let me take out another??........or are there restrictions??...

Would appreciate any advice..

Thanks

only if your second degree leads to a professional qualification e.g. law, architecture, medicine, physio etc.................if not then no

I think you may be able to get bursaries for that which are seperate to the student loan system.
i'm on my second degree also- yes of course you get a loan. you don't have to start repaying your previous loan until you have completed the 2nd degree or are earning over a certain amount per annum (i think it's 10, 000).

like I said.............you ONLY get a loan if your 2nd degree leads to a profesisonal qualificaton so its not a case of "yes of course you get a loan"

you can calculate loan entitlement here. the way i understood it was that you were entitled to a maintainance loan, but not a fees loan.
I phoned up earlier about how long you are entitled to a student loan and she claimed it was only for 4 years (i.e. one degree plus a year in case you fail a year and need to repeat). Not sure whether that means there's no support for students doing a second degree tho:s-smilie: I would just call up the student loan company and ask them direct.
it's not about length... if your course was 17 years long, you could have support all that time. you're not allowed full support for a second degree usually. just to stop people being students forever basically and just living off student loans their whole lives....
