Sorry bout the anon but I'm pretty self conscious about this 
I have dry skin all over my face and I was wondering is there any creams or lotions I can use to to help with this on a longer term basis than a couple of hours (some face cream I use).

Vaseline dermacare.. I have flaky skin to and I swear by it!

Get something from the doctor such as Eucerin or betnovate cream.. it's used for eczema so it would clear any flakey skin up pretty quickly.
