Hi does anyone else get calls from this number?

I have been getting them a lot recently to my mobile, but each time I have been asleep so I just get the missed call.

When I call them back I get an automated message that says its Telegraph Media subscription group, and they will keep calling me back.

Or hold the line to speak to an advisor, but I don't know if this is a con / will charge me premium rate to speak to them.

HELP

Don't respond to calls like this, they're more likely nuisance calls. By responding they'll know they've reached an active number.

Have you registered with the TPS? That can help, but it doesn't stop all calls.

What phone do you have? If it's an Android OS phone then you can get an app called Root Call Blocker, which you add numbers to and it won't let them through to you -- I use it all the time It also logs them, I'm sure iOS would have a similar app.

Mixed reviews but you could try this? It's free

https://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/48846/

Failing that get in touch with your operator and see if they can block the calls

And has it led to less nuisance calls?

And on a side note I don't give out my mobile except to friends and job applications so someone has obviously sold on my number which is very annoying, unless they are just using an automatic dialling machine

I don't get them on my mobile, they're on my home phone. As they're Indian call centres, TPS can't do anything

Think they do just dial any random number and see if they get a response.

I think they can prosecute people doing it in this country.

But as this is The Telegraph media subscription I'm sure they won't prosecute the telegraph. (If it really is them)

Does no one else get calls from this number? I can't surely be the only one!

Strictly they're not doing anything illegal, as in all likelihood you have given your number to a service who in their terms and conditions say they can pass on your number to third parties.

It is your responsibility when you give your number to companies to ensure they do not have permission to give it to others.

Your best option, as previously mentioned, is to call your operator and ask them to block the number.

I doubt the mobile network would block the number just because they've called a few times - I think they generally only do it if your getting abuse etc.

They obviously keep calling because they aren't getting through (wouldn't you do the same!?), so either answer a call and tell them to stop, or call them back and ask them to stop. That's a landline number, they can't just charge you extra (and if they would, they would have done it when you called them back before anyway!). Odds are you either have given your number away before, the previous owner of the number did so or it's an innocent mistake. The Telegraph aren't going to get prosecuted over this...
