Gay at Sheffield?

Hello, I am probably putting Sheffield as my Firm for Law. Just wondering if there are many gay/bi/les students at Sheffield? Are there many events? I know there isn't much of a scene in Sheffield, but that isn't a problem, a club is a club, haha !

Climax - Gay night on once per month at Sheffield Union.

Fuel - Gay club, from what I hear it's quite good.

There are quite a lot of LGB students in Sheffield.

Cool. Thing is I go to a school that is really accepting. I mean I am one of the popular ones and being gay is not an issue at all and was just worried it might be at Sheffield, glad it won't be. Hope people get used to my sarcastic, outspoken, tough attitude, haha. I am really looking forward to uni and can't wait to meet loads of new people, will be sad to leave my m8s though. Looks like Sheffield will be my firm for law :biggrin:

lol. no, its cool. i mean there are quite a lot of gays... but the scene isnt exactly buzzing. i guess, as lucy said u've got fuel and climax. ive only been to fuel once, its a bit small, but the music's wicked n it was a good night overall (minus a ********). climax... well... what can i say lol... not my cup of tea, but i guess its a laugh n u wont have any trouble finding a pull because everyone is just that desperate!! lol. im not a member of the lgb society so i dunno what thats got goin for it...

but yeah ev1 is accepting and laid back and stuff so u'll have no prob fittin in!!

Its really good! I went to some of the meetings and everyone is lovely! Especially the comittee. I don't have much time for the meetings now, but I always go out on tuesdays with them all for drinks afterwards!

I will probably be around to meet Freshers in September!! Was going to run for committee next year, but i'm on placement 3 months a year, which would put pressure on everyone else so decided against it.

Fuel is currently going under renovation and they are creating 2 rooms to allow for different tastes. Not all gays could dance to Madonna and Kylie all night! lol

PM me for more info on the gays!!

One of my best friends at shef is gay (female) and she's had no problem fitting in finding friends even a gf! Of course you will sadly find the odd narrow minded person but on the whole we are quite a friendly bunch. Climaz is a great night out - lots of straight people also go to it. the LGB soc is fairly active it seems. Fuel has just had a refurb, haven't been but was told it's good. You won't have any problems so welcome to sheffield!!

Climax was nominated for a regional award by run by Galaxy FM, was up for best Gay Night or something along those lines ... Havn't been to Fuel yet, but the music policy looks bloody tempting!

Any questions about the LGB, ask me. I know nearly all the committee. I can ask any questions anyone has.

I will be there for the first meeting to meet freshers... see if there is any talent (and boy does sheffield need it!).

It is. Although Climax once a month is a really good night (have to promote the unions own event), and the uni LGB plays a big part in what goes on at climax.

Fuel isn't that bad, okay its camp and cheesey, but thursday nights are really good.

Occasionally I go over to Manchester as its only 50mins by train and Essential is open til 5 which is after the first train has gone back to Sheffield.

Come along to the LGB meetings on tuesdays. Sometimes they're good, sometimes not. I go to the drinks after the meetings though.

I'm straight and Climax was one of, if not the, best night out i've had in sheffield since I've been there. Been a couple of times and hope to go more this year. The atmosphere is very laid back and the music is great too!

lol, i've always been put off by the name tbh- 'climax' tends to imply to me that you'd walk in and there'd be people shagging over the bar and stuff, kinda scary :p:

gay bars are ace. nottingham has 2 gay clubs next to each other - @d2 and NG1 - full of non-threatening guys...perfect for a non-single girl to have a hassle-free night :biggrin:
