Frequently wetting the bed.

Hi im not sure if this is a psychological problem or what, but atleast 3 times a week i find myself wetting the bed. Usually i wake up mid process, but by then its too late. I always force myself to go to the toilet before i go to bed but that doesnt seem to make a difference. I have to sleep on plastic sheets which is very degrading. Can someone help me?

i dont mean to be rude or offend you in any way but can you purchase adult diapers or something? dunno if they exist. is there any course of medicine you could take ? even though it is phsycological have you tried consulting your GP about it

THere are adult diapers and they are pretty effective apparently... But, doctor appears to be a good way to go.

Go and see your doctor. You may have a medical condition, and so they can help. They will also be able to give advice on suppliers for palstic sheets, any groups in your area and things like that.

Try not going to the toilet during the day whenever you feel you need it. Hold it until you do need to go. That might help over time.

You could try setting your alarm in the middle of the night, before it normally happens, and go to the toilet. Although this doesn't sound very nice, it stops it from happening. If you keep doing it, you could try setting your alarm 10 minutes later, and then getting later, hopefully training yourself to wake up to go to the toilet :smile:

I had this problem until I was about 14-15. Its most likely a condition called Enuresis. It's often caused by emotional stress - from school, home life etc.

Your course of action will be to go see your GP and go and get a pee pot. They'll need to test your urine for any physical problems with the kidneys etc.

It'll most likely come back negative though - in which case you should be referred to an Enuresis clinic, who will monitor your progress with an Enuresis diary, and also give you the necessary equipment you need to "train" yourself out of the condition. This, as DredgeReformist said, comprises of 2 metal meshes that you lie under your bedsheet (with one in a pillow case) on top of each other. When you wet, the alarm will sound and wake you up. You'll still have to change your sheets though... but it helps you to make progress :smile:

They can also supply you with plastic mattress protectors - you can get these from places like Dunelm - they're the "Anti Dust Mite" ones :smile:

You can also be prescribed a drug called "Desmopressin" though this is a short term fix - for example if you were going on a residential school trip. The downside with it is you can't drink much - NO alcohol and very little in the way of water.

It'll take some time, but you'll soon begin to build your confidence when you start having dry nights more often - and this only helps the process more! :smile:

I had the same problem, but don't have the confidence of MadVlad! He is SPOT on. I have tried each of the things he has described. Alarm, tablets etc. I thought it would never end, and I understand that feeling of never wanting to go to a friends house overnight etc. It ruins your social life!

BUT don't worry, I just sorta snapped out of it when I was about 17. It just stopped. Good luck.

As already suggested, go and see your doctor. I can imagine that it can be embarasing t bring this problem in face to face conversation but it is not uncommon and your doctor has heard all that before.

Has it started all of the sudden or have you got this problem for years? If it started suddenly it may well be a symptom of medical condition. Even if it is psychological your GP will still be able to offer advice and some possible solutions. It may take some time to sort this problem out but the sooner you act on it the better.

My sister had this problem till she was about 8 or 9. Being so young, I think the doctor just suggested charts and stuff. She got a sticker for every night she was dry, and then a gold one for ever 10 days (or something). I realise this probably won't help with an older person though.. But yeah, the advice other people have given. Doctors!

I have the same problem. It was just down to 2 or 3 nights a week but lately its been every night :frown: I think it's probably because of exam stress - our teachers suddenly got all like 'I hope you all realise your exam start in 3 school weeks'.

To the original poster, how old are you, if you don't mind me asking? I'm 16 - I really should go to the doctor I guess, but I just want to forget about it all really and I'm too embarrassed. Have you tried drynites, they're good, but don't solve the problem.
