The Student Room Group

Was I being rude?

Ive always been the type who gets embarrased and never knows what to say in front of people, but I went back to Judo and said Id come cause Ive nothing else to do (im no good with words) and then someone said 'oh right sarcasticly) and they wouldn't train me cause I hadn't been for ages, I was kinda shocked. Anyway I asked the other group that were there and they said they would, but I prefere to train with the others so I asked them again (after they said no) and they said they would consider it if I got my skills up again with the others. I just feel I was really cheeky and that im not wanted. Ive been going since I was 9 though. Do you think I was rude? im just really embarrased.

Sorry to sound fussy just what do you think?

About 9 months, but I had a few problems like anxiety/depression though I didn't mention it they would have laughed plus I don't want sympathy.

Sounds reasonable to expect you to go in the other group till you get your skills back. Nobody has been rude - just practical solution.

Well to be fair, I don't think saying that you had "nothing better to do" is the best way to reintroduce yourself to the group. I mean put yourself in their position, they are probably serious about the sport and are quite dedicated, then you reappear suggesting it's just something to do to fill the time  no wonder they were mad

I do sympathise with you though. Sometimes (especially when I'm nervous  ) I just say the first thing that comes into my head and then afterwards regret it so much. It's so hard to take back what has already been said :frown:

Is there some kind of leader in the group you want to join who you could approach on a one to one level? Without the pressure of other people being present you may find it easier to explain your situation and why you may have appeared rude. Perhaps you could also express your dedication and the fact that you really want to join this group. Other than that, I think you should try and stick it out in the other group until you have proven yourself and are allowed back into the group. Something like this is not worth giving up a sport that you have been doing since the age of 9

Finally, try not to beat yourself up too much about it. Yes you said it but everybody says something that they don't mean at one point in their lives, the best thing to do is to try and move on and make ammends. I'm sure that you can do it

Cheers, it was actually the one in charge that said I couldn't train, I actually meant to say 'sorry Ive not practiced but Id like to start properly again' instead I said 'Ive nothing else to do so I came here' guess I didn't want to sound stupid (but did anyway).

Yeh i come up with a straight answer sometimes and then just keep regretting it afterwards. But i suppose it fades away as time goes by or you can always be nice to them (only if you want to)

Just get that guy in charge to one side and explain the situtaion.

Honesty rocks and you'll come across as way more mature for being able to admit you were kinda dumb than you would if you just ignored it.
