my tongue!

I had my tongue pierced in october and have had no problems until recently.. i keep it clean so i dont understand the sudden problem?
its been sore the last few days, and ive not felt 100% - headache, tiredness, not able to sleep properly as well as the pain in my tongue when i move it e.g. to talk! the top of it looks as usual but the bottom looked a little different this morning there's a little yellow spot type thing when i touched it, it bled! only a tiny ammount but does this mean my tongue is infected? what do i do! when i didnt feel well at work yesterday i just assumed its cos im due on my period soon but then i woke up this morning and looked at the bottom bit of my tongue...
ive had my tongue pierced about 2 years, and if im ill in anyway it gets abit sore cos usually coughs n things are in your mouth. also if your dehydrated.
but the spot thing doesnt sound good, you might want to go along to the piercing place cos they can help but then again it could be unrelated. use an antibacterial mouth wash to get ride of any infection.
and how do you keep it clean? your saliva should do that for you.

Go to the doctors! Is a piercing really worth all this, Id advice people not to have it done:redface:

I am NOT obviously qualified or anything but what I would do:

Start up again on the salt water solution mouth washes just to keep it clean. I would say if it doesnt get better in a few days go and see the doc.

yup thanks, been doing the salt water thing, brushing (as usual lol) and using mouthwash(the type that doesnt contain alcohol..) so i'll keep that up for a couple of days!
got my mum to look at it earlier she just said it looks a bit red

dont use salt water on a piercing it doesnt help! just stick to the mouthwash and as its in your mouth you shuldnt really need to clean it.

Salt water is all you should be using on piercings, although mouthwash is recommended for piercings around the mouth area.

To the OP, go back to your piercer. They'll recommend if you need to go to your doctor. If you go to your doctor first they might tell you to take it out when actually you don't need to.
I've had mine done for a couple of years and never had any problems with it. I'd say go back to your piercer aswell, but also take a trip to your GP to be on the safe side. The other problems you're having may or may not be related to the piercing, and only your GP not the piercer can tell you that for sure.

well wehn i got my lip pierced i used salt water and it made it swell, as soon as i used savlon spray it went down and healed alot quicker.
Go to your piercer before going to the Docs, as Doctors are usually very disapproving of piercings! From my experience anways - 'I think my belly piercing is infected...' 'Well you shouldn't have got it done!'
thanks its better now though

You might not have been using the right type of salt, or it could've been too strong.

Sea salt solution is generally the best aftercare you can use for all piercings. Mouthwash is often too harsh.

Care to elaborate? As far as i knew salt was salt

For sea salt soaks for piercings, you should use non-iodized sea salt. About 1/4tsp to 8oz of distilled/bottled/boiled water.

Well, there's garlic salt, and I don't think you'd want to use that!

Sometimes salt has things added, or I have heard of people using "Lo Salt" which is not really salt at all!

I have no idea how big 8oz of water is (if it was margarine I'd know!), but I was told about 1tsp to a pint, which is just over 500ml.
You been giving it a bit more action than normal?

Kissing someone maybe?

That could cause soreness
