Easy - it's fun, you meet loads of good looking guys (like me  LOL) and it only uses the muscles on the back of your legs.

SNOWBOARDING

that is quite possibly the worst idea ever. firstly, it would be very ineffective and it doesn't 'only use the muscles on the back of your legs' at all. secondly, the person is very likely to live in the UK, which isn't the best of places for snowboarding if you haven't noticed.

to the OP - get to a gym, lose fat and/or build up the back of your legs a bit.

1 - I live in the UK and I snowboard every day, and it's great for building up leg muscle tone because it is harder.

2 - If you snowboard correctly, yes, you use your leg muscles primarily. Admitedly I forgot about the use of the abs for balance, but steering, shock absorbtion and speed control is all done by using the legs.

3 - All my students have said that after 6 or 7 lessons they've noticed their legs getting stronger and more toned as they use the muscles for an hour a week to such an extent.

4 - It is EXTREMELY effective as long as you don't spend most the time sitting down. You are having to use your leg muscles so much that yes, at first it will hurt, but they will develop quickly.

5 - Bis, have you ever snowboarded before? Cos if you haven't, you are in no position to say about the effectiveness of snowboarding for toning leg muscles.

Oh, and Pretty Boy, no one can kill my cheerfulness :p: I'm always smiling where ever I go

where? down your staircase? finding somewhere in the uk to snowboard on a regular basis, or even a few times a month is a big impracticality, and it isn't even worthwhile for this sort of thing at all.

obviously you do a bit, but its not very effective in comparison to other things.

fascinating. i'd just like to point out that there is no such thing as 'toning' really.

i wasn't aware that people sat down whilst snowboarding. must be a little sore on the privates.

leg muscles won't develop noticeably in appearance from it, believe me. its like when people think running will give you huge legs, it simply wont.

yes, a few times. not that i would have needed to in order to see that it isn't good for this.

I used to snowboard twice a week at Bromley Dry Ski Slope in Kent, 4 hours on Tuesday and 5 hours on Sunday, and now I snowboard every day at Sheffield Ski Village for a good couple of hours.

It is very easy to find a slope to ride, they are all over the place. Milton Keynes, Bromley, Chatham and Sheffield - four I can think of that I've been to off the top of my head. I know the general locations of a load more. And yeah, I do it down the stairs (or more accurately the bannister) in town, but that's just a laugh. Everywhere I've lived in the UK, there has been a slope within 30mins of my house.

And yeah, people sit down on the slope. Legs out stretched with the board on, nice n comfy. It's just a way of recovering from a few hard runs, and your legs are tired from all the exercise.

Oh, and when you've snowboarded, did you feel your leg muscles working hard? They work like crazy when your riding. If you don't get a bit of a pain in the legs when you're learning to ride, then you're doing it wrong.

It is not the most practical way to tone legs, but it is a lot more fun that trips to the gym, you can't go on gym holidays but you can go on snowboarding trips, and you still get toned legs.
