Good thing. In my opinion, smoking in a public place is selfish. It's one thing for a person to kill themselves through smoking, but it's another to kill someone else through passive smoking.

Just came into effect in Scotland last week...

I am asthmatic and I work in a bar, and quite simply the last week has been bliss. Long may the ban prosper

Good or bad thing to ban smoking in bars, pubs and restaurants like in America and Ireland?

my local bans it after 8pm. Which is good as when it gets busier you're not gasping for breath.

In Manhattan you see crowded groups of people everywhere just standing outside buildings smoking on the street because there are no longer smoking sections in cafe's, restaurants and bars so it's the only place to smoke.

Any smokers got any thoughts? A lot of my freinds who smoke are really angry about the ban because they feel they shouldn't be pushed into giving up and it's something they would prefer to do socially together.

yeh I live in Scotland and i'm loving the smoking ban. It means whenever I go out to a pub or club I don't have to put up with people smoking in my face and I don't wake up the next morning with my hair and clothes stinking of smoke

Supporting the ban is selfish.
