MySQL uses a dual licensing policy. If the program you're writing is a open source program MySQL is free to use, if however you're redistributing it on a commercial basis I believe you have to pay to license MySQL.

So in otherwords if I make an online shop I have to pay a licence? I have just realised though I am using an external hosting company so I assume there are responsible for the licence and not me. I won't even be using any MySQL software as I will create and populate the database using SQL commands.
