I'm embarrased about my first name!

Hi there,

I'm a really prominent member of this forum but lately people on here have been saying I'm fake, and yesterday I went home and cried because it's not true!

I'm real! I just use a different name on here because I have a confession:

I hate my first name :redface:

It's really embarrasing, I used to be teased at school because of it, and it's like 'ethnic' and stuff, so on here I use a Western one :biggrin:

Which is actually my middle name so I'm not really lying. Oh and as for lying, sometimes I do lie about myself, and even my sister has pointed it out, and she's right. Once you start lying, you just can't stop!!! I mean most of what I say on here is true, but my first name and where I live is made up, and it's tempting to lie more however I don't.

Also I want people on here to trust me more, how do I do it???

I just want people to TRUST me and believe what I say :redface:

Well honesty is the best policy, people on this forum are very nice anyway, so it's unlikely that you'll be judged or taken the piss out of. Also be proud of your name, don't hide behind a semi-false identity, and don't let the past ruin your future.

Aww, you shouldn't be embarrassed about your first name. I wouldn't say you're lying because you prefer to use a Western name rather than your actual first name, a lot of my friends with more 'ethnic' names introduce themselves with a Western name; It's not lying, it's just your preference. They also find it easier as many people mispronounce or spell it incorrectly which can be frustrating. I love names which aren't that well known and I think a lot of 'ethnic' names sound really attractive and exotic.

If you want people to trust you more then you've simply got to stop telling these other little white lies - they catch up on you eventually. Just explain yourself to these people who think you're fake and I'm sure they'll understand. Your explanation sounds perfectly reasonable. Sorry I can't really offer any more advice but don't worry about the situation too much.

People can't exactly accuse you of being fake on a forum, unless they know you in real life of course. I'm my normal self on here just not using my real name.

Meh, might as well throw my two-cents in.

My surname almost rhymes with 'orange-tango'. I'll leave y'all to try and work out what it could possibly be.

My point being: you're stuck with your name (unless you pay to have it surgically removed) and its a part of you. Your ethnicity, your identity and your family. I'm sorry you don't like it but hey, at least it isn't Engelbert.

there are loads of students in my sixth from who share the same 'problem' as you have! I mean respect should be there. If you could lie to such small things such as your first name, then what would others think of you that you could also lie to big things. This would only further ruin relationships. That's not good is it? Try & tell the truth from now own, and tell/explain why you've lied. They would probably understand you even more!
