Vegans: Pompous attention seekers?

I just don't get the whole vegan thing...It's as if they're too good to be mere vegetarians, and have to go one step further. Glory seekers! They find every excuse to slip it into conversation as well. You dare take a so much as a passing glance at that packet of pencil shavings they're eating and they launch into a speech about how they don't eat anything that comes from an animal, has been touched by an animal, sounds like an animal, smells like an animal or grew in the same field as an animal. They always introduce themselves like this: 'Hello my name is Timothy, is that a dairylea dipper you're eating? I can't eat those as I'm a VEGAN.' I mean seriously, it can't be good for the pretentious fools to live on a diet of pumpkin seeds and processed bark. Surely by resorting to such primitive dietary methods they are just punching millions of years of painstaking evolution in the face. Take that Darwin!

Not quite sure what that emoticon is supposed to imply, but no doubt it's something profound.
Being a vegan, I find this thread really insulting.

I'm a vegan because in my opinion, I think it's unnatural to drink another animal's milk. When do you see human milk bottled up on supermarket shelves?

Secondly, I don't eat eggs because of the cruelty and suffering of the animals.

I don't do it for attention-seeking, I do it because I believe in the welfare of animals.

Also, I don't eat tree brk. Maybe you should read up on the diet of a vegan before making stupid stereotypical comments.

You might not be aware, but Quorn products are not vegan, so I doubt a vegan tastes like Quorn...

What about welfare of plants?
I actually respect vegetarians and vegans, because i agree with their principles, but don't have the willpower myself to give up meat, and i really wish i did. I keep trying, and then i'll smell the beef on Sunday, or go to a barbeque, and it all goes to pot.

I think vegans are very good to do what they do. They don't go a step further for the sake of it- they are just LESS hypocritical than vegetarians, and why is that a bad thing? Think about the philosophy and principles of vegetarianism- it's all about the hurt and bad effects on animals. And yet they still involve themselves in animal-hurting things in other ways. What is worse then, a hypocrite or someone who goes further to stick to what they believe in?

I do admit however, that the stuff they eat is a load of old ****e. It'd be like eating Weetabix- FOREEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVEEEEERRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1onethousandonehundredandeleven!!11

Learn from this.
You moron. If you were in Vietnam when the war happened, i'm sure you would have been a prime target.

They don't do anything useful for society? Well i'm sure you're well- fed as a result of their existence.

Farming of animals is destroying our environment.
What a load of crap.

I eat a wide-range of food products.

Excuse me, there would be no need to slaughter cows and chickens, as many are bred to produce milk and eggs. So if there was no demand, then none would need to be bred.

Cow's milk is also full on anti-biotics which are not removed during pasterisation.

Also, we drank our mother's milk, as that is what it's produced for, feeding the offspring of an animal. Since we're not cows, why should we drink the milk of another animal?

Secondly, in the production of milk, many calves are killed after the mother has given birth, just so she can produce milk.

I've read that before. But what i say still stands really. Vegans are one step ahead of vegetarians, despite all that stuff, and therefore one step closer to their own-held beliefs on animal welfare. Which is a good thing, whether you agree with vegetarianism or not.

Fact is, humans are bastards, animals are innocent.

Veganism and vegetarianism is about ending the DELIBERATE killing of animals. Insects which are killed during harvesting are usually killed by accident.

As far as I'm aware, plants don't hve a central-nervous system, whereas animals do. That's what I'm against, the deliberate suffering of animals.

What's wrong with anti biotics?
We drink the milk of other animals because humans do not produce mil in enough quantities to be useful to people in general.
People eat the calves (after due processes). Theyre not wasted.

Many of the calves are not sent off to a slaughter house.

Nothing's wrong with anti-biotics and growth hormones, if you're into consuming medication which was intended for the cow.

Milk isn't actually a very useful food product. Cow's milk isn't actually intended for human consumption, that's why a large percentage of people are lactose-intolerant.
