i don't understand why arrogance is one of the things to be ticked off the list of 'ideal man'...

Reply 21

Confidence, self assurance, cockiness...

I don't know, I don't speak for the total female population, just I find arrogant men usually have something to be arrogant about (ie attractive), they are usually in a powerful position career wise, basically have something to be confident and self assured about.................!

I don't speak for the generic population, there's a flaw in my man-o-meter somewhere that makes me have some homing device to arrogant/powerful men!

I think the Trader sounds rather arrogant, but it's good to feel vindicated here - yes, LSE is an awesome place to find jobs in IBanking in the City. And it looks like he knows what he's talking about - I personally don't believe he's a "chatting sh!t".

monkey work

Pay peanuts, get monkeys

Think you missed out Imperial in that list...

President ben, who is sure to post on this, believes Oxbridge candidates are at an disadvantage etc yadda yadda

President ben has just been misquoted and ain't a happy bunny about it. London has something which Oxbridge doesn't. And it's worth noting that LSE sends more into banking than Oxford and Cambridge combined despite having about a third of the number of students.

Reply 24

He's not chatting rubbish. And he's here because he's being nice enough to share what he knows. Like many of the better people around. Sadly, there seem to be lots of precious little flowers who feel overly trodden on by the 'no nonsense' attitude and view.

Hey I'm going to bristol to do Economics and Finance or Accounting and Finance. I've applied to both and got into both, which one do you reccomend?

Also How much do A levels counts for? Mine arent exactly amazing, having been predicted for ABB. Do you think its worth resiting exams A level at University to get them up to AAA or AAB, or won't it effect me?

Also cititrader open up your pm box i've got an important personal question to ask.

A levels count because in your first year, they're all you've got. Iffy A levels will see you failing to get onto those first year programmes and they help with internships etc.

But it isn't worth resitting them. Be too late anyway.

I would just like to say that some women don't like assholes. I'm one of them. I'll take a decent guy whose ass isn't up his own head on 10K over a smartarse ******** on 50K any day.

No need to state the obvious...

Lady_Muck is such a sloane (wannabe?)

That's true, but you cannot infer from that that LSE students will find it easier to get IB jobs than Oxbridge students. From what I've seen/read, IB & 'the City' seem to be very much ingrained in the culture of the LSE, for better or for worse, and it's students very much focused on that career path. Just because there isn't such a focus at Oxbridge does not mean that an Oxbridge student will be disadvantaged against a LSE student.

I've put that in my sig more to annoy the communist f-wits amongst us.

I'm no Communist, but isn't that just a little vulgar?

Reply 29

To the best of my recollection, I don't think I ever said Oxbridge was a disvantage versus IB. Because people at either, if they're good enough and want it, will get in. Neither will get turned away for being at the wrong uni...

As for the communist statement, seems like it was written with a little tongue in cheek.

Ah yes, it was that muppet bluefuture that accused you of writing that, sorry.

Tongue-in-cheek or not, I don't really think the guy needs to put his salary in his signature. That is a trifle unnecessery. Given his degree result and place of work, I don't think people will question his authority to say what he says.

Reply 31

People write down all kinds of points of pride into their signature. What's wrong with that one?

Reply 32

Old-fashioned social convention I guess?

It's one thing to shout about getting a 1st in Economics at the LSE, which is after all an extremely commendable achievemnt, especially as this is a student forum. Saying how much money you make at the age of 21 is perhaps less appropriate, and given said degree & job title, it's a safe bet that the guy is earning plenty - without needing to put exactly how much he does earn. Just a social more I suppose.

Reply 33

I see where you are coming from - and I probably wouldn't do it myself. In fact, I very deliberately don't have a signature or an avatar because I don't believe in expressing worth or pride in that manner. I'd rather they go off what I say.

(I hide rep when possible, unfortunately, while someone did 'sub' me, I'm not a sub now)

But I wouldn't hold it against someone to be proud of their earnings. Bit like people who take pride in bring a millionaire or a billionaire. It's a big achievement.

You see that building? I bought that building ten years ago. My first real estate deal. Sold it two years later, made an $800,000 profit. It was better than sex. At the time I thought that was all the money in the world. Now it's a day's pay.

Reply 34

Good ol' GG.....hmmm.

I'm not sure if I would exactly call him a role model though.

People are entitled to their opinion. Why not reason with them, rather than insult them?

Also the fact that he has put his salary in his signature. What is the old adage about people who tell you how much they earn?

I know, I was thinking that actually. He really knows how to tick people off, but anyway, reasoning is best, and if he wants to show his salary then he has the right.

Sure. The advertising bullsh*t that "It doesn't matter what degree you did" is complete nonsense.
Fixed income - Mostly economics/finance and related, plus mathematical subjects (such as Physics for example)
IBD - A bit more mixed, some arts students, lots again of Economics though
Middle Office - Ditto
Tech - Mostly Computer Science
Ops - Largely people with accounting/finance/econ degrees from worse unis.

Overall arts grads aren't that well represented, there's single-numbers in each bank/division/year.

CitigroupTrader: Since you have your PM disabled, I'll post here. How well regarded are joint honours degree (which include Economics) from LSE? Which category would that fit in? Good enough for fixed income?

Oh, and thanks for dropping by to deliver that useful advice.

What about geography with economics from LSE, assuming I'll get at least a 2:1? I'm really keen on IB!!! SHOW ME THE $$$

Reply 38

what about working at IB if you are studying political economy at LSE? any chances to get a job there?
or are they mainly into economics/accounting?

Stop being so pompous. The posters are concerned about joint honours courses (e.g. Geography and Economics) from LSE, and want the OP's point of view.
