Keele village has basically a few pubs and houses its tiny, you dont really tend to go near keele village unless you live at hawthorns. Hawthorns is in keele village which is about 15 mins walk from the campus. Hawthorns has its own bar, and has a pub right close to it. I got accomodation at horwood which is just behind the union so only takes about 1 min to walk on to campus. I know people living at Hawthorns and although its a nightmare having to walk so long (compared to other accomodation) to get onto campus, hawthorns does have a great atmosphere. Although some of the blocks have only 1 kitchen between 30 people which is a nightmare but it does help to socialise with your whole block. Hope this helps, anything else you wanna know just ask!

Are you a first year? When did you apply cos they don't seem to do it on first come, first served.?

No they don't do it on first come, first served. It's all random but a 15min walk is nothing really (especially compared to how far ppl have to travel in everyday at other uni's). But everyone who accepts keele as a firm choice gets a place on campus, anyone who has it as insurance or gets through clearing is likely to end up in College Court in Stoke. Which apparently is very nice but a nightmare to get into uni early in a morning and just generally a bit out of the way.

I was away when the accomodation form was handed out so didnt complete it staright away so was lucky to get horwood. I was expecting to go into hawthorns! Some people i know wrote on their form that they did not want to be in hawthorns!

I live in Hawthorns now, and although it is a bugger to share a kitchen with 35 people and 1 shower between 27 people, i have very rarely had to wait for a shower, only like 10 mins on a fri night or something like that. It is about a 15 min walk, but at least you can walk off the crap uni diet, n plus the walk is quite scenic. Hawthorns has the best atmosphere of any halls I've visited and Templar bar is great. Although i was quite shocked when i saw the place, i love living there.

Is the music decent in Templars? Heard it was all rock/heavy metal! I'm into dance etc. Do people bother in Hawthorns with the Union?

They have an open mic night most Sat nights, so you mostly get rock/inide bands playing. Most other nights they dont usually play music unless you go to the jukebox. I don't go to the union as much as i would do as if i lived in another hall, i normally go on a fri night and some wed n mondays. It's a bit of a hassle sometimes so is easier to go to templar as is only about a 1 min walk from my block. There are always loads of people in there to, so you are pretty much certain to see someone you know.
