Is it too late to change my course at Durham?

I've got a place to study Philosophy at Durham starting in October but after being given all the module info on the online system, i'm starting to think that i'd really like to do Philosophy and Politics instead. Should i wait until i arrive in Durham in a few weeks to talk to them or should i email now? If so, who should i talk to?

I'd e-mail now. I've heard of Durham taking a dim view to this sort of thing. Although, that was from people taking the combined honours course as it used to be easier to get in and wanting to swap to the single honurs courses. So my tutor says anyway

Well I've managed to switch from Biology to Natural Sciences with no problems on Durham's part so I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed.

how did you do this? was it before or after you went to durham..? ive applied for mmath but im starting to think id like some economics as well...so i think natural science may be better for me...but ive no idea whether i should just wait until like a month after i arrive (hopefully ) when i'd have a better picture of what to do but then would that be too late?

I knew I wanted to do Natural Sciences so I had emailed the Director of Natural sciences (nicest guy ever, btw) and he told me and it was true that all I needed to do was a change of registration form. Basically, I would email him (find his email on the Durham website) and just see what the options are, check the module compatibility and normally most courses will let you swap around until around the first month of term

Ok great that's really useful! Also I'm just looking now at the subjects and modules you can do. It says the largest number of modules you can take for one subject is 4, but what's the total number of modules your supposed to take for the first year? I'd like maths to be the majority of my course but I can't tell if 4 modules is a majority or only like half which wouldn't be enough for me. I think most of the modules I'd be doing are worth 20 credits each if that makes a difference.

Each year you do six modules; 20 credits each, for a total of 120 credits each year.
