Bristol halls

would really like people's opinions on halls, either at bristol, or in general.
i just can't decide which to go for!
at the moment i think its between clifton hill house and wills hall.
clifton hill house
pros- IN CLIFTON so only 20 mins away from everything on foot, musicy reputation (i'm quite musical), catered.
cons- may have to share a room, would really like an ensuite.
wills
pros- v pretty, in stoke bishop so in main student area, would be possible to get ensuite, catered.
cons- in stoke bishop so about an hour away from eveything on foot :frown:, full of rahs and sloanes by all accounts

which do you think i should go for? out of these two or any others? bearing in mind i can't cook, am v lazy so don't really want to be getting up v early, but also want to be with a decent bunch of not overly posh people... i have visited friends in goldney but still haven't been able to decide. i know its early to be thinking about accomodation but i leave the country soon so have to leave my decision with my parents. help!!!

You can get an annual bus pass, so the distance needn't be too much of a problem.

ok well Stoke Bishop is not full or rar rar's but yes Will's has that rep.. Hiatt Baker Halls normally are far more chilled out... but whatever you do dont steep to the level of University Halls as there the worst on Earth!! Will's Halls are really nice tho and most are Un-suite!! the Old Quartre is full of the rar rars i believe!! and there Catered!! donbt go for the non unsuite "will's hall block tho coz thats for Retards!!

Stoke Bishop isnt an hour from anywhere its more like a brisk 30min walk i hear, but then i never walk i drive!!! my GF lives there!!

regarding the Clifton Halls they tend to be abit Scummy... i went there and its abit much !! having a shared bedroom!!! but then LOCATION LOCATION its near the http://www.thecoronationtap.com (aka the corrie tap) and just around the corner from a video rental shop, the clifton wine bar, and that ugly student Union!!! and you wont need to get a bus to uni as its not really that far.. compared to Stoke Bishop!!!

Hope that helps

Which one would i go for??

WILL's definitely they have more of a Social life i think and one meets alot more people!!

go and visit them and ask current students!!

p.s. Churchill are quite good i hear but ive never been there!!!

hiya i'm at wills and i've loved it so much i'm staying on next year as well. Yes it has a rep for being a bit rah and has the classic theme tune (the wills on the bus goes rah rah rah!) but its not that bad. Yes there are a few toffs about but this year all the halls except Hiat Baker have had that problem and at wills i've proabbly met more state school pupils than private. This was one thing i was really worried about before coming to Bristol. I didn't want to feel like a total commoner :0) but it honestly hasn't been a problem. Also the hall is so pretty and all the staff (with a few exceptions) are so so nice. The warden regulalry comes into the hall bar with his dog and has a real presence in hall. The food is also the best in wills and the weekly formal is legendry, all your friends in other halls will be fishing for invites. Also the rooms are huge in old quad and prices compare favorably with the other halls. in fact Clifton Hill House is the most expensive catered hall. Also in the clifton hall you can't leave your belongings over the easter adn xmas vacations so it is a real pain in the arse having to cart everything back and forth.

As for the walk, it is no where near an hour. It is probably about 30 min to hte university depending on which department and it is on a main bus route so if you are feeling lazy there is normally a bus back up the hill every 5-10 minutes. Also on an evening out the student link picks up from the door of wills (and the other stoke bishop halls) and for 80p will take you into town whereas you would ahve to walk/stagger in clifton.

As you can tell i'm very biased about wills but thats because i've had such a good year and it feels so much like home.
Hey, does anyone who's actually been to Bristol have any advice about the Student Houses in Clifton? they look really nice and cosy and fun, i like smaller places and though they're self-catered, i cant stand the thought of being in stoke-bishop! any advice or ideas??

as far as i can tell from the alternative prospectus and accomodation pages, wills is the only catered hall with the option of en-suite. is this right, anyone??
