I find it really hard to 'absorb' music. I have LOADS of bands im into (mainly indie/alternative) but if I buy a new album and listen to it a few times, I can sit here and think ''this album is very good'' but I couldnt recall a single lyric or song name or remember how the song goes.

This doesnt really improve on repeat viewings either :s I listen to music all the time but I barely ever remember how anything goes!! Its so annoying

It's the other way round for me. I remember the majority of the songs I hear, even if I've only heard them once in my whole life, and then get these songs stuck in my head. Even when I hate them. It's irritating.

Nope, can't really say it happens to me. I tend to forget what the song name is called, and i go through the lyrics in my head to figure the name out.

Maybe when ive forst heard a song, and i weren't really listening to it like i should have been, then yeh, ill forget the lyrics. But that goes without saying really.

I suppose it could be very annoying when your talking to your mates about a certain song, and they are talking about the lyrics, you could feel left out because you havn't "absorbed" the lyrics yet

EDIT: What sort of music do u listen to?!

I'm exactly the opposite. My brain is like some kind of recording machine, if I listen to a song a few times I can replay it in my head as if it were on a CD or something. It's weird. But quite handy when I forget to take my mp3 player out with me :p:

I'm the complete opposite, I could real off lyrics years track listings band members etc till I'm blue in the face, and I've never even tried to learn them. Give me a load of revision though and I suck at remember ing stuff.

I'm a bit like that. Sometimes i hear a song and take it in without really realising it. And then when i hear it for a second time a few months later i'll turn to someone and say 'is this a cover of something, cos i recognise it?'
It can be quite annoying at times

Yeah. Like that next single by The Feeling; somebody recently told me that Jo Whiley had been playing it last year, but when I heard it on the radio a few weeks ago I was thinking 'wait, I know this song, how can it be new?' because all the DJs were forgetting to mention that it had been around before.

I can absorb tunes ok, but I am completely bloody awful with lyrics. I mishear them in basically every song I ever hear.

yep I'm the same. Its quite annoying really. Or I'll need to have the lyrics on the cd cover or whatever in front of me before I can actually make out what theyre singing!

I dont really think about it. Either i pick up lyrics or i dont. Sometimes i look them up in the internet if i cant remember what the songs called, or what the words are. When i was younger, before i really used the internet i used to think eminem was "cool," and sit there pausing my tapes, to write down the lyrics of a song and then learn them. I was a sad child. My parents tried to ban me from listening to his raps at such a young age but sadly they werent able to stop me from going round to a friends house and co-learning the lyrics together...sigh...

Roflcopter.

Do you understand a word of Micro Cuts by Muse? Matt Bellamy's usually really clear but I had to get that little album booklet out to find out what he was going on about.

It's the second best song on Origin Of Symmetry if that helps. Not that our favourites are going to be the same.

He does say 'megaphone screaming my name'. I thought he sang something about butterflies. Butterflies all in a row, or all in my hair. That's what it sounded like.

I don't have that problem. Lyrics are really the only reason I buy a cd. Music is important, but the message makes a song great. Which is why I've never bought any Britney Spears cds
