I don't know where that virgin thing originated. I see no benefit at all of a shagging a virgin. They won't know what they're doing and probably won't enjoy it either.

If I was going to marry a girl, ie: look at her every day in the eyes and allow her to give birth to my children, I would ensure she's slept with less than 5 people. I assume most guys would be the same.

What would be interesting to know is how many girls get dumped for their sexual pasts. Anyone know of it. How would a girl react? How would she feel?
The less amount of sexual partners the better.

If there were 2 girls, equally attractive, similar personalities, similar intelligence but 1 was a virgin and the other was more 'experienced' and both offered a relationship I'd choose the virgin.

well the way i see it,
most girls lose virginity around age 15/16.
most girls marry at age 25/26+
a guy expects a sexual relationship after 1 month - 3 months generally, a year tops
therfore if a girl has a serious relationship lasting 1 year, every year, she is likely to have slept with about 10 men before marriage, and yet might still be perfectly respectable.

also lads, in imposing this ridiculous doulbe standard, and dumping any girl with a sexual history, you do realise you'll push girls to lie about their past more and more. so 'i've only slept with 2 guys' will join the list of 'honey, you are the biggest' and 'of course i had an orgasm'

You know, I actually agree with you there. Though I'm not sure it will make girls lie, but rather make them go for guys who don't care about their sexual past. In my experience, these tend to be the nicer guys. Maybe it will help redress this nice guy/bad boy dichotomy some men seem to speak of.
It's only guys who're seriously insecure who'd dump a girl for their histories, who gives a ****? And half these are acting like their **** don't stink, they're probably bigger slags than the girls they're attempting to look down on. I say let all these immature gimps wait for the girl who will worship him and cook all his meals while the rest of us will be off having a laugh with the ladies who know how to party!

edit - just noticed that swearing loses its emphasis when censored :frown:

well i think judging from this thread it is the majority of men.

they seem to all want a sexy woman, that all men will look at, yet somehow she has never been in bed with a guy.

i want to marry a virgin and im a woman! i totally understand what guys say about wanting to look at the woman who will bear their kids and be with them forever as if she has never been with another man. but ironically these men are the same men who have been around , and yet expect the purest of the pure for marriage. i want to be respected and i thought keeping my virginity will mean my husband will respect me. but it doesnt. he will see me as an object - albeit new rather than used. but i dont want to be objectified and i dotn want to demean myself by succumbing to a double standard. this is why i will only marry a virgin man

I don't really care how many men a girl has slept with. All I care about is if she's a nice person and I find her attractive. She could have worked in the porn industry for years for all I care, if I like her and she likes me how many men she's slept with is irrelevant.

Yeah, but it's LIFE isn't it? I expect the person I end up with to have experienced life and the world, and along the way everyone has loved and lost, and to act like that has somehow degraded them is pathetic.

I'm sure people have different standpoints on this due to religion etc, but I don't expect people to judge me by who/how many people ive slept with, i'd hope they judge me as the person they know me as, and i have exactly the same viewpoint towards others.

I've been with people with very shady pasts and with lily-white pasts, and you don't say 'oh, i trust you X amount and you Y amount, as you've slept with more/less people than you'. I wouldn't want to know people who had that kind of petty, judgemental attitude.

I have no particular preference, the only concern would be considering STDs if the woman had had many sexual partners, but deep down it would be nice if she were a virgin...

why?

If a girls a virgin.. especially if she was younger than me.. i'd just be so paranoid about taking advantage.. or appear to be doing so... obv. that only applies to the one off encounter.. when it comes to getting seriously involved with its irrelevant me thinks

why?

Personally it is because I too am a virgin, and I would feel that the sexual encounter would be a more emotionally momentous occasion for both of us, but as I said, I do not have any major preference of virgins.

i think alot of men are under media pressure to be experienced and great in bed, and so having virgins makes them seem the best they've ever had
You think? Sex with virgins is pretty much guaranteed to be terrible. It's not a case of impressing anyone, more damage limitation really
Reply 56
Thats a bit odd. Sex with a virgin in a good relationship shouldnt be just damage limitation...it should be pretty fun for both parties

That's absolute crap, I'm sorry. Having sex with lots of people does not make you powerful.

In several ways, it makes you quite pathetic.

:dito:

If a guy was good looking and charming enough to get someone into bed initially, but boring, unkind and rubbish in bed, he'd get a lot of girls who might sleep with him once and look back on it as the biggest mistake of her life.

If a guy is actually decent and good boyfriend material, his girlfriend is more likely to try and hang onto him for a long time, which lowers his number of sexual partners but gives him much better relationship potential and probably makes him a LOT better in bed as well.

If there were two guys, equally attractive, similar personalities, similar intelligence etc., I'd choose the one who knew the difference between "less" and "fewer".

I say this in complete confidence knowing that such a situation would never happen.

Agreed. But being on this board for a while I'm actually starting to get a bit of a conscience about it. Its really not fair. But then, I guess life isn't.

That doesn't mean we should give up trying to make it fair. And anyway, look how far we've come in the last century regarding attitudes towards sexual relationships? I think you underestimate how much has already changed.

Look at Friends; a lasting sitcom, loved by many. It would be very interesting (although I doubt anyone could be bothered) to watch every episode and keep track of how many men Rachel, Monica and Phoebe sleep with over the years. And Rachel, particularly, has clearly had quite a few before it even starts. Ross, on the other hand, had only slept with one woman at the start, and gets quite a lot less than Rachel over the years! It never appears to be an issue there.

I know it's a sitcom, but it's based at least partially on real life, and on characters that we like and believe. If it was so totally unrealistic, the show wouldn't have lasted and endured in the way it did. It wouldn't have captured (and retained) people's attention so successfully over the course of a decade if people couldn't understand and identify with it. But do you ever hear Friends being described as an accurate description of sluttish behaviour in New York?

If you've ever seen Coupling, (which you should; it's very funny) you'll notice the same thing. These kind of shows reflect the culture we live in, at least to a point. Can you imagine the reaction if something expressing similar attitudes towards sex had been written and performed a hundred years ago? Quite.
