# A Level Maths - This right? watch

1. We are working out the line using this:
(4,2) with y=x^0.5

I done:
dy/dx = 0.5x^-0.5 (or 1/2x^0.5)

THEREFORE
m = 0.25 when you input into the formula and x=4

THEREFORE
y = 0.25x + c
2 = 0.25(4) + c
2 = 1 + c
c = 1

THEREFORE THE LINE IS
y = 0.25x + 1 Or....
y - 0.25x - 1 = 0

That right???
2. yes that is right
3. Really? Phew!
4. are you trying to work out the tangent or the normal?
5. (Original post by imasillynarb)
are you trying to work out the tangent or the normal?
i assumed it's the tangent, in which case, it is right. if it was the normal, the gradient would be -4 and the intercept 18
