Burn?

This is a bit stupid, but I used some of that verucca cream on my skin (not the gel stuff, the stuff where you get this piece of cotton wool foam stuff shaped like a polo, the cream goes inside the hole, then you cover it with a plaster). Anyway, I used it for a few days to get rid of this thing on my skin, now it's a big red open sore and it didn't even work properly. It looks like a burn. The stuff is salycylic acid (I think that's the wrong spelling though) and it basically kills off the top layers of skin til you can get to the wart underneath. I don't understand why it works on the sole of the foot (which didn't scar either btw).

So how can I make it get better real quickly without any scarring? Should I take it back to Boots and complain? I think my skin is going to be a bit ****ed, and it's an area 1cm by 2cm, it's quite big (I must have got the stuff all over my skin).

Help!

have a look at the leaflet that came with the stuff and see if this is a normal side effect. and then i would say go and consult your pharmacist and they'll be able to advise you

doesn't it say that you're only supposed to use it on the hard skin of your feet? I don't think you'd have grounds to complain if you're sticking it on any old where!

I'd wash off the area thoroughly and get some clean gauze on it.

that jus gave me odd images, sorry

oh, and salicylic acid is TOXIC... we used it in the chemistry lab to make Aspirin under STRICT supervision... so i mean, what the hell...

Yeah it's literally killing the top layers of skin. Erm, it's a bit gungy and gross but it doesn't look infected. What's the best way to heal it fast? Put a plaster on it, or put gauze on it, or leave it in the open air? Currently every time I look at it (once every few hours) I can scrape away a layer of gunge, like slimey skin (sorry). Or should I not do this?

If it's still bad in a week I'll go to the docs but as it is I'm going to feel like an idiot (hence anon!).

I think its meant to kill the skin, thats how it removes the verruca. However, if what you are putting it on is not a verruca, then stop now! Leave it to airdry, and keep it clean.
A more natural and gentle way to get rid of a verruca is to put some ripe bannana skin (soggy side to your skin) on it.
