We did 1984 and the handmaid's tale for coursework, and in the exams are doing Dr Faustus and The Nun's Priest's Tale..am worried lol xxx

I'm doing The Wasp Factory and Poor Things for coursework, and Dr Faustus in the exam. I did Metaphysical Poetry in Jan exam (blegh!) I'm rather pessimistic of finding ANYONE doing the same combination of books for coursework...

Oh hangon.. are we talking A2 or AS here? I'm A2. Sounds like AS over there, as last year we had two texts at exams and one for coursework, whereas this year we have compare and contrast for coursework (2texts) and only one June text (not including Poetry)
Hey I'm doing WJEC as well. Last year did "Translations" by Brian Friel, "King Lear," "Emma" and Heaney poetry.

This year: I've already done coursework on "1984" & "Handmaid's Tale" and got exams in "Tis Pity She's A Whore" and Chaucer's "Nun's Priest's Tale".

The Chaucer paper's gonna be a bitch! How does everyone revise for english? Cos I can never actually sit down and revise!

Hi im on WJEC im doing Faustus and contrasting 1984 with Handmaids. But they are all exams as we're not doing coursework. I did metaphysical poetry in Jan and got 100% if ne1 needs ne help:smile:
I am doing WJEC ENG.LIT. We did Keates poetry in January- got A, then comparing to pieces of travel writing- Diski, Skating to antarctica and Steinbeck, Travels with Charley. For my other exam I am also doing Doctor Faustus.
Right, is it just me or with the Faustus paper, the first choice of histroical context questions are pretty straightforward, as long as you know your stuff, but the second part comparing with other Literature, a NIGHTMARE? We did past paper, Mayor of Casterbridge one- geez! I have read a few books, eg Oscar Wilde- the picture of Dorian Gray in prep. but it is totally random, last year was a poem  . I have always been good and English but I am finding this difficult. I love the compare and contrast novels though, realy in depth ideas involved which is great.

I did that paper last year. It was an Emily Dickinson poem if I remember correctly and it was a bit of a nightmare. The first question is really quite easy - you can get away with barely mentioning the text, but the second...I think any comparisons made where tenuous to say the least! Don't worry too much about it though. There are stock things the other text will have to include (e.g. reaction to death, the idea and presence of God etc.) so that makes answering the question a lot simpler.

Is the exam your doing involve using critics quotes? For my NPT exam i just religiously learnt the critic quotes off by heart, and just kept re-reading my notes and doing past papers.
You'll be fine  i came out of the exam thinking Id failed when in fact i got 100% As long as you know what the assessment objectives are and keep them in mind while doing the exam then you'll get the marks you need

For synoptic Duchess of Malfi, last year I think one of the questions was a bout the subordination of women :s: cant remember for sure though. Just basically how the Cardinal uses women for his own gains (cant remember the name of his mistress omg my memory!), and how the Duchess is under the control of her brothers. Then obviously relate it to the contetx in which it was written, so it might be useful to do some research online about the Jacobean era.

I also got 100% for the Jan metaphysical poetry! Cool! Are they just a really lenient board, or something? I have OCR for Chem and Bio..and getting marks is like drawing teeth!

I'm the opposite. The contextual stuff is easy but annoying cause I have to do some work (poor me) and I've got other very hectic exams to worry about. But the bit where they give you another text to compare it with is great because you can very easily extract things from the source they give you and blag a load of stuff about it. It would be well cool if it was something like Picture of Dorian Gray.. wouldn't it! We did that last year. I enjoyed Wilde's writing but hated the novel. I've enjoyed Dr Faustus SO much more.. its so witty!
