According to my book fixed exchange rates "act as a discipline on producers to keep their costs and prices down and may lead to greater pressure for importers to raise labour priductivity and focus more resourses on research and innovation"

why would that by the case?

Got to give you credit for basically being the life blood of the academic forum.

Can I ask, what do you think?

It's all about foreign competition having better access and the usual competitive pressures.

i just dont see how the exchange rate being fixed would increase competitive pressure
