Christ's College for MML

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me any info on Christ's and on what the DoS's are like for MML. I'm planning on doing French and Spanish - and the web page contradicts itself as to who is the DoS for Spanish... I applied to Emma this December - could anyone think of any other colleges I should take under consideration (those colleges which aren't hideously oversubscribed)...My primary interests are in latin-american literature and french existentialist works.. ....thanks for any help

anyone?.... Hmm...I know Christ's isn't very well know for it's arts subjects... but low numbers of applications might just disguise the fact that everyone who applies to Christ's has very high academics due to the college's reputation...well I'll be going on the open day in July...just wanted some info in advance...

Oh don't play the numbers game, it never works like that because the numbers are always changing due to the fact that other people play the numbers game (don't over-analyse though and do a double bluff sort of move, it'll only give you a headache).
Not sure about fellows, but have a look at:
Girton, Churchill, Robinson and Downing.

I know everyone says this: but there is data over 4 years showing consistently low levels of applications to Christ's (which I may add is one of my favourite colleges).. I reckon trends are shown because although some people play the numbers game - you'll never get around the fact that over the years some colleges consistently get high numbers of applicants for MML (Clare and Emma)...and some get less (funilly enough Christ's and Trinity 2:1 on average against 5:1 for Emma and Clare)....I didn't play the numbers game this time around - and look where it got me - against 56 other applicants lol...:frown:

well one year for queens there were like 200 applicants, the following year 800 because people thought it was undersubscribed but everyone had the same idea and shot themselves dans la pie. if you know what im saying. numbers game is lame.

That's odd, because Queens' has had loads of applicants for quite a few years now. In any case, shhh. Everybody thinks that we're good. Don't spoil it. :|

I think Downing and Girton are quite good, especially if you would be interested in doing any linguistics at any point in the course.
When I went to Christ's open day last year the man said that there was a lot of competition there because they got 'quality not quantity'. I left thinking no chance, but I really liked it so went for it. All the central colleges (and actually the not so central ones too) will have loads of good applicants and the pool system makes it all quite irrelevant anyway. If you like Christ's, go for Christ's!

See this is what I'm worried about...I really like Christ's...but I don't want to be up against the most academic linguists of all...hmm...I also like Downing though - but I don't think the tutor for Spanish is interested in the same things as I am... oh well
Well you're not guaranteed to be up against the best ones as not everyone wants to go to 'the academic college', and even if you are, the pool system means that you'll get in somewhere if you're good enough - and any college will probably become home in time  .

hehe - been there done that...grr pool system - and Christ's usually takes people from the pool - it hasn't place an applicant in the last 4 years... But I really love Christs - beautiful garden....friendly people...
