Anime fans!

any anime fans out there???
ive been a fan since i was 5 (though i didnt know it was anime then!) and ever since then my passion for it has grown. im also a manga fan, and try to read a fair few series, provided i can get my hands on them (which is pretty tough in the uk - for both anime and manga).
my fave series are rurouni kenshin, gto, naruto and last exile. loads of other series i like as well, but those are the best that come to mind at the moment.

doraemon!!! i loved doraemon. one of the first series i ever saw. i watch sometimes if i catch it when im abroad - still makes me laugh. the ideas are very original, and often really weird. the series is over 30 years old as well!

Yosh! Another fan ey? And a Naruto watcher as well, good good. Myself, Byukagen_Neji formally known as Jediknight, Hades (though she seems to have vanished) and a few others from this board, also watch Naruto.

[If you didn't know, Bakasan has released 73.]

I love anime, infact, just come on after having watched a batch :P

There have been a few other anime threads, if you want to flick through them, they should be listed in a 'similar threads' box.

If you live in London, Chinatown is a good place. Otherwise, you can buy off www.yesasia.com or you can download some unlicensed anime via BitTorrent from www.animesuki.com

HMV and MVC both sell anime, but normally they're around £20 (per DVD) from there. Amazon sell them for about £18ish, but the cheapest I've found is Play(.com) who do them all at about £15 -and sometimes have deals etc as well. You also don't pay P&P with Play so they're no additional costs.

There are some other American sites that do them cheaply, however I think they're probably just pirated, which would defy the point really.

i found play.com to be the best source for me. they have some classics like princess mononoke for 8 quid or so.
usually i have dled most series, as almost all of them are still unliscensed (some are liscensed NOW, but not when i got them  ).
and ive been following naruto for a while though. hate the current animation studio though. the fights could be so much better, like they were during the chunnin exam (though ive yet to see the next 3 or 4 - including hokage vs orochimaru!)

I'd advise against it, unless you're purposefully looking to buy pirate copies. I'd wager a large number of the anime from Ebay are fansubbed versions people taken and burned.

Which have you seen, or if far too many to list, which are your favourites?

the list of what ive seen is really big. my faves are rurouni kenshin, gto, naruto and last exile, irresponsible captain tylor, gundam (i LOVE gundam - 08ms is the greatest), full metal alchemist, full metal panic. other good ones are ai yori aoshi, kimiozo go etc. (i can never remember this name), onegai teacher, onegai twins and a load of other stuff i have somewhere in my house. movies - i really like spririted away and princess mononoke - same style and director - both very creative. also spriggan and akira are really cool too, but a bit freaky.

Probably there are a few exceptions, however it's likely the majority are somewhat 'dodgy' -the unlicesnsed series' people are selling are blatently suspicious. Safest to stick with reliable retailers.

I just found out the other day, a much loved book of many years, 'Howl's Moving Castle' by Dianna Wynne Jones, is being made into an anime-style film, by the same people as did Spirited Away I believe. Had a tiny glimse and it appears they've mutilated the castle *sigh*, ah well, should be interesting.
I would definitely say that my 3 favourite anime series are cowboy bebop, trigun and hellsing, oh yes, and read or die, and my favourite anime films are akira, vampire hunter D and detonator orgun
