Marrying your first ever date :/ How common...

Just want to ask anyone out there who knows anyone who is in a relationship with someone who started dating since they were really young and are now old (not old, but I mean are at that age where they think they will get married to the other person).
The thing is my first boyfriend and I have been dating since I was 14 and he was my first ever date and now I'm 17 and was wondering if it was rare that someone stay with the other person for that long at such a young age and when we grow up we both don't plan on ending the relationship, so I just want to know if you have any people you know that have married their "high school love" and are still happily married.

Any psychologists who could provide me with some info would be useful too as I heard on a tv programme that the feeling of "love" (which was supopsedly scientifically proved to exist by a chemical release in the brain somewhere) on average lasts 7 years before the body is no longer affected by this feeling or something. (or am I just talking a load of crap? )

Thanks people

I think it's pretty rare these days to stay with someone from such a young age, esp as something like over 50% of marriages end in divorce, but I'm sure that if you both love each other, are committed to each other, and want to keep the relationship going, then I don't think you'll have any problems.

It maybe rare, but nothings impossible.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. (It'll be a nice story to tell the grandchildren too!)

heh thanks, it would be nice though to know if anyone on here has ever had this kind of thing happen in their lives, though I doubt many people have.

So what do other people think, do you think this "love" will die out when I grow up?

*-)?

Surely that's like leaving Deal or No Deal at the first offer?

I mean, it's not always bad, but the big money's still on the board. Why risk taking it now?

The guy I am with now was my first (and only) boyfriend and I dont really see how/why we would end our relationship. If you are right for each other I dont believe you will just stop loving that person.

I don't know if they were first loves or not but my friends parents got together when they were about 17 and she supported him through medical school then they got married and had 3 kids and are still together at nearly 50

I know people who have known each other since they were 10. They have only ever dated each other- they are now in their 40's and married and have kids.

Whatever floats your boat. I tihnk it's a bit odd :p:
Our head of IT started dating her husband at the age of 15, they've been together ever since, and they're still very much in love as I understand!

Also, the other day I saw an elderly couple wakling down the street holding hands, which was quite a nice image, contrasting against current divorce statistics and Britney Spear's 50 hour marriage and stuff lol.

Afterthought: I suppose it is just possible that the elderly couple did get wasted and then get married in a dodgy chapel in Las Vegas, and were on their way to the divorce courts...

I think its really nice when you hear about people being together for ages like i was in the barbers the other week GETTING IT CHOPPED lol when i heard this old man telling another barber how him and his wife have been married for over 60 years thats what marriage should be not all of this britney spears 50 hour marriage like someone else mentioned about.

Same for my parents. Although having said that, they did get divorced and get back together again. Real hardcore Eminem style. Only they haven't married yet. I've been with my current boyfriend since I was 15 and I'm 18 in a few months. We've joked about marriage and on our 1 year anniversary we told a couple of people who are always doing practical jokes that we'd got engaged as a joke and they believed us. But seriously, we wouldn't get married until we were at least 25 I should think. That gives us both enough time to get out of uni, do further training & get jobs etc. I don't think anyone can predict how you will change as people in the next 5-10 years and if you really love each other, there's no need to rush!

i think if you are certain you never want to be with anyone else then its good. you also have the security of knowing they havent slept with anyone else and as im sure you all know im a fan of no sex before marriage for this reason. thus the bond is stronger, and no past relationship jealousy
Two people I know got engaged at the age of 16, not because they were necessarily going to get married as soon as they were old enough, simply because they could. Which we all thought was a bit silly.
Two friends of mine started going out at ages 16 and 14 - they've been together for 12 years, married for 6 of those and have two children.

It happens, maybe not all that often but it does happen!

That's really nice to know it still happens!

Guess we'll have to wait and see if it will for me

It does happen, one of my best friends has been with their boyfriend for 6 and half years..since they were 14, tho they've had their ups and downs and she has wondered whether she could by missing the best years of her life, but their still pretty happy. About 4 of my friends are in longterm relationships with their first boyfriends (since they were 17/18/19) and all plan to move out/get engaged and eventually get married once they've finished uni/have enough money. One of those girls parents have been together since they were 13:smile:

It all really depends tho, i dont think i could have married my first boyfriend
