Fat For No Reason?

hi i just wondered if anyone else has had the experience of gaining weight for no reason. There has been no change in my eating habits (I eat VERY healthily) and I do a lot of exercise (gym 5 times a week good workout) so I don't understand why my weight fluctuates so much. I'm 5''2 and weigh 9.5 stone but this goes up and down and I hate it I am so fat it gets me down :-( any ideas for quick weight loss? I know faddy diets are rubbish and I am actually an advocate for healthy eating but im at the end of my tether:redface:  :frown:

The weight fluctuations might be to do with water retention - do you reckon this is a possibility?

If you are fit and healthy then I wouldn't worry too much - 9.5 stone/5 foot 2 isn't "fat" really is it?? Only other thing I can think of is to alter your diet to reduce calorie intake - I know you say you already eat very healthily, but perceptions of what is "very healthy" vary from person to person.

You could also see your GP to check there isn't some medical problem underlying the weight gain - e.g. a thyroid problem??

Well I only eat fish salad and vegetables with granary bread or brown rice and eat only small portions of these and i've checked my thyroid :-( Normal :-( I feel like just starving myself but even that doesn't work :-(

Certainly sounds a healthy diet to me!

Did you already speak to your GP about this (hence thyroid check)?

Starving yourself never works. Apparently your stomach can swell as a result. You should eat healthy stuff in abundance eg have as many pieces of fruit of veg as you want to get rid of the mentality of being hungry.

Yes he did all the tests :-( Agh I dunno it's weird. I know starving does that but eventually it works (there are no fat thighs in a famine) so it's a last resort. I just might have rubbish energy levels for my training at the gym xxx
Yeah talk to your GP, it could be something more serious. But hopefully not

Just count the amount of calories you currently eat in a day and eat a few hundred a day less, is that such a hard concept to grasp? Weigh your food so you know exactly how much you're eating.

Thank you. Just out of interest what might it be tht's more serious? cos it's not weight in one place im fat everywhere?xxxx

Eat less do, do more exercise.

As narb said, calorie count.

It sounds like you might have an inactive thyroid. You should see your doctor and have some tests done.

I actually do that's my exact point! I do all those things I am very very healthy (prob moreso than other 19 year olds) I rarely drink etc etc so my point is even though i'm doing all these healthy things...i'm still fat!!!

How long have you been getting "fatter"? Perhaps you had an allergic reaction to something or are missing out something important in your diet?

Its not just about eating healthy, its about how much you eat. Calories in vs calories out.

Hence, weigh your food, find out exactly how much you are eating. Eat less.

It really isn't rocket science, and all this talk of thyroid problems is complete rubbish, and I wish people would read, especially the bit about having her thyroid hormones checked, and they were normal.
If your instinct is that there is something wrong, and that it's not connected to diet/exercise I would go back to the doctor again and discuss your concerns.

Is it "flab" we're talking about or is the weight more muscle?
to the OP, you sound like me- im 5'3 and 9 1/2 stone....i excersise and eat really well most of the time but i find it so hard to lose weight- i've got friends that stop eating chocolate for a week and lose half a stone! it's not fair! i count my calories all the time (bit of a bridget jones)- i know that to just maintain my weight i can't eat more than 1500 cals per day...so to lose weight i need to be very drastic. i've never had my thyroid checked, to be fair- maybe i should- what does it involve?
so feel free to PM me to lament about our low metabolism!!! i can really sympathise with you!

Consistency is vital to overcoming weight problems.

You should get your thyroid checked..both my mom and grandmother had it so from personal experience it's awful. Basically if your very tired a lot of the time/gain weight for no reason you should get checked. The doctor would normally feel your neck to see if your glands are swollen (a sign) and then a blood test to check your hormone to see if your under/over producing! Weight gain could just be diet or it could be something else...so get it checked!

yes, i know....but i dont think anybody could stick to a strict healthy diet 100% of the time- probably 80% of my life i spend eating healthy- but i still go out for dinner with my mates every so often and i still get pissed at least once a fortnight etc, and i do enjoy cooking a nice meal for my boyfriend. but i do try to compensate for this by consuming far less the rest of the time. i usually know how many calories i have consumed per day to nearest 200, even if i have eaten more than i should. what i am trying to say, and i think the OP is trying to say, is that i eat far less, excersise far more, and am far healthier than the average person- but still can't lose weight unless i run a half marathon every day and starve...well maybe that's a slight exaggeration but it aint far off!
