Econometrics Extended Project

Hi all,

I'm thinking of doing an extended project in the field of econometrics. I love maths and economics so it is the perfect mix. Just unsure what to do it on so any ideas guys? Everything is appreciated

It's tricky to do one if you have never done any econometrics before. You could do some basic applied regression stuff - you don't actually need to know much; just by pressing a few buttons on Excel you can get some results but I'm not sure how many marks you can get (even at the A-level stage) for that.

If you want to just estimate a simple regression equation you can pretty much do it on anything. I'd suggest something you enjoy and something you can easily get data on.

I've got no idea what an extended project is. But here is some general pointers for someone new to econometrics.

Read this book: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41FFqrKC6sL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Find data for your chosen regression.
Build a model (as per the book's teaching).
Refine your model (to avoid problems such as multicollinearity/heteroscedasticity/autocorrelation/endogeneity (all covered in the book)).

Good luck!

P.s. If you're interested in going further, then I'd recommend reading this book as the next step: http://i43.tower.com/images/mm117375110/econometrics-by-example-damodar-gujarati-paperback-cover-art.jpg

Hey Mark, how did the project go? I'm a Y12 student who is also looking to do an EPQ involving econometrics in some way or another, since I've always regarded econometrics as some sort of forbidden fruit that is crazily complex. Would be awesome if you could tell me how it went. Will def use the resources suggested in this 11 year-old thread lol
