Degree Course Transfer

Hey guys! I'm currently at The University of Manchester about to enter my second year studying Modern Language and Business and Management (Mandarin Chinese). Recently I requested about changing courses to PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and fortunately they have granted me an offer to which I must reply by Monday. As time is running short I figured it would be best to gather opinions from the TSR community. My only reservations about giving up my current degree is that I would be giving up Chinese and my year abroad, however, you can learn languages outside of a degree or by living in the country etc. If I chose to do PPE I would start as a first year but ultimately my projected graduation date wouldn't change as PPE is a three year course and my current course is four years so in that respect I don't lose out on anything. I have spoken to my friends, family, and academic staff and all have given mixed responses, most leaning towards PPE though. If I took PPE I was planning on taking Chinese outside of my degree as an additional language module and preparing for the Chinese language proficiency test (HSK) to have proof of my ability within the language on my CV, etc. After graduation I was thinking I could take a gap year out studying Chinese in China for a while or something to which I should attain a good level of proficiency after a year. Overall PPE seems to be a better course and the module selection is huge and I was intending on specialising in Economics for my dissertation and doing either a post-grad in something economics related or international relations related with a pathway to China.

Ultimately it's my goal to work in either the city or in the Civil Service in the Foreign Commonwealth Office and I believe PPE would best to prepare to do just that. Any comments, opinions or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Thanks guys!
