Tell her to STFU, and wait for the fireworks. I used to do that, and although it never really had the desired result and usually ended with me getting clouted round the head(until i got clued up enough to say it from a safe enough distance away and run off giggling), it was very satisfying
edit: Just to 'masculine' myself up a bit after that 'giggling' comment - i'm 6'1, bench 90kg, am assistant instructor of a Mixed Martial Arts club and used to be a doorman. Oh, and my mum can beat me up. Hang on...

All mothers are like that, my mum does it all the time, dont take it too heart she was either stressed, having a bad day or maybe PMT. Try not to worry, i am pretty sure she didnt actually mean it. Just give her some space for a while then when shes calmed down just act as if it didnt happen, i know it isnt nice, i hate it when my mum does that kinda stuff

my mom never called me names but she always implied that I was stupid for things like I used a small spoon for a bowl that wasn't exactly big and she would shout at me about "NOT USING YOUR GOD-GIVEN BRAINS! CAN'T YOU SEE THE BOWL IS SO BIG!?" and i'm like "Mom I thought about it and it doesn't look that big" and then I'd get into trouble. *sigh*
