What is the advised amount of time to leave a hair dye on before washing it off?
Also, when the instructions tell you to leave the dye on for...15 minutes lets say, does this include the amount of time you have taken to put on the dye, or after ALL the dye has been applied? Surely by the time you have applied the dye and waited fifteen minutes, it will have been on one's hair for about 45 minutes!
Do what the packet says! Though if I have left it on for longer than it says (5/10 mins longer) as I lost track of time, it doesn't make lots of difference. Some brands of hair dye I have used said to leave it on longer for a stronger colour anyway.
I know these hair dying products always say to leave on for approx 15 minutes then rinse off.
I'm always worried that if i dye my hair, and i leave it on for too long, it will come out black. Can this happen with a product such as a medium golden brown?
Another question, will you get better results the longer you leave a hair dye on for before you rinse it off?
I use a dark golden brown one (i think its a l'oreal one but usually i recognise it by the girl on the front) and you're supposed to leave it on for half hour. I usually leave it on for 5ish mins longer than this coz my hair is quite dark anyway. I find anything less than half hour and the colour doesnt come out quite as strong
I'd say definitely if you've got any kind of roots showing do these first. i'm terrible at taking my own advice but even on my own dark hair you can see a little where i havent done the roots first
The only colour where i've had a problem with it coming out too dark was with a reaaally dark brown / purpley one. it left it on for about 50mins i think and it came out nearly black. but with golden brown i havent had any probs!
Ooo my final tip would be double check your bathroom for any little bits of dye that have flown off coz it can be a bugger to get off if you dont wipe it off fairly quick! Happy colouring though if you go ahead, im sure it'll look ace
If in doubt, try a strand test. Find a little bit of hair that you can't see under the rest of your hair, paint some dye on and cover it with foil or something for however long the packet suggests. If it comes out the colour you want, go ahead with your whole head.
there are some types where for instance, you're making your hair lighter. Leaving it on for too long makes your hair blonder than you wanted it to be. :P
with this hair dye i've chosen, when i dyed my hair once before with it, it really enhanced the redness in my hair, which looked really nice. I left it on for 10 minutes only as it was the first time using this hair colour. To enhance the redness even more, shall i leave it on for longer this time??
To be honest I'd say if you're ever in doubt its better to leave it on for a shorter amount of time than longer. But if its only semi-permanent I'd say go for it. Although if you are worried about the colour intensity it'll come out, do a strand test first maybe?
