    AlCl3 reacts with water to give Al(OH)3 and HCl:

    AlCl3 + 3H2O -> Al(OH)3 + 4HCl
    [Obviously the HCl is ionised, but the charges make it look messier!]

    How that then reacts depends on what you put into it - aluminium hydroxide is amphoteric - it can react with acids to give aluminium salts (containing Al3+) or with bases to give aluminate salts (containing [AlO2]-).
